12 month old not pointing

I’m concerned that my 12 month old isn’t pointing. I know this is a flag for autism.

He also doesn’t wave.

However he does babble and say ma ma ma mum mum dad da da ba ba ba. He smiles and laughs and makes eye contact.

He can point (he pointed when it snowed) but just concerned as babies the same age as him point at everything.

I believe the range for pointing is 10-15 months, but isn’t considered late until 18 months.

I don't know the specific ages toddlers are meant to do these things, but there's a huge range at all milestones. It may be something or nothing. May be worth calling your health visitor though, as you'd want to know as early as possible if it did turn out to be autism. I guess there would be advice on how you can help him communicate best etc?

My DD2 never pointed at that age but she could walk and would just get what she wanted. Does he other wise indicate what he wants?

I was also worried about lack of clapping and pointing from my DD at 12 months, then a few weeks later she started doing both. If your little one is babbling, has good eye contact, copies you, brings you toys etc then they will be absolutely fine. There is a huge range of normal.

I was worried my baby started waving late aswell around 14 months he even just started walking now and he’s 18 months some kids start things late. Maybe give him a few months

Thanks everyone. I mentioned this at nursery today and apparently he points all the time there! Does anyone know why he might not do this at home?
