What age can kids play out?

If you live somewhere you deem safe. What age can children play out on their own? Walk to the park?

I dont think kids play out anymore anyway.

My 10 year old has a contract phone and knows how to use it, she's in Year 5 and at age the school allow them to walk there alone - but for me it's still so young!!

At 11, when children go to secondary school, they usually travel on their own. So at 10 a child should be able to walk to the local shops (perhaps with a friend) and walk home from school. My DC walked home together at the tender ages of 6 and 9 and let themselves into the house. We had one rule - they couldn’t accept lifts from anyone. Not even the neighbours and we told various adults not to offer lifts. I appreciate that these days Social Services would be involved. At 10 my DD would go on two buses to visit her grandmother and back in 1950, my DS took the bus to school on her own. She was aged 6. Times they are a changing!

My dd has played out from 9, but there are 7 year olds on the street who regularly play out. My ds is 7, I don't let him yet.

Mine both played out on the straight from around age 7/8 years. Down to local park with friends from about age 9.
Dd started taking the bus to local town on occasions ( we live in small village) to meet up with friends when she was in first year high school.
