DLA and Universal Credits

Hi I was just wondering if there was anyone who is in receipt of high rate care DLA and universal credits with 3 children?

We've just been told my baby qualifies for high rate care DLA so we informed UC. In our UC payments prior to this we got no money for our baby as she was 3rd child born after 2017.

We had been told whilst applying for DLA if we got HRC DLA we would get the severely disabled element payment but UC have given us a payment that we worked out is the 3rd child exception amount.

We've asked UC to clarify why we don't get the severely disabled child element but they don't seem to understand what we are asking as it is a bit confusing all the different rates and qualifying rules. It's wrote out on the gov.uk website the amounts but who qualifies for them is not so clear.

Any similar experiences that can help? Thank you 😊

I get it for my third child but he was born before the cut off.
It's very much worth having.
I just take it from their point of view you can't claim the 'extras' for a child they don't officially pay for....
As in you get no element for the child so can't therefore have the element plus....

Claimants gets the disability elements for “any disabled or severely disabled child - no matter how many children you have or when they were born.” no matter how many DC they have. See here

I hope that's right- all of mine are older. I hope it works out for you and I will shut my cake hole!

You should get the £402 per month severely disabled child amount, but it will still be subject to the taper, so it depends on your income as to how much you'll actually get.

Thank you for your replies very helpful. So difficult when trying to speak to them on the phone either can't get through or they are shut by time get back from work etc. Read one thing and the advisors say another. Thank you again 😊
