Questions about newborn, I've forgotten everything.

I have a new baby, he is 3 weeks old. I also have an almost 4 year old and it seems I have basically forgotten everything about the newborn stage. These are some (probably obvious) questions I have! Can anyone help?

Sleep - When we first brought him home he was drift off and wake by himself, now he is suddenly fussing when he is tired. I distinctly remember you need to help them get to sleep is this right? With my first son we rocked him in a bouncer and he was out for the count.

When can I put him in his own bed/room ? He sleeps in a moses basket next to us but he is disturbed by all the little noises and wakes easily. I'm guessing this is 6 months?

When you go to the petrol station, what do you do - take them in with you in car seat or leave them in car in sight? With my oldest son I just nip in and pay and he waves at me in the window. Also same question for nursery drop off! This morning I took baby in car seat with me and it was blowing a gale and the entrance was too narrow to fit through!

How often should baby be awake? Mine sleeps ALOT, he will nearly always sleep from 4pm-8pm and I'm wondering if this might impact his night time sleep? He's not too bad at night, feeds at around 9.30pm, wakes at 1am and 4am for feeds.

Sorry if these seem like obvious questions. My mind has obviously gone.

Yes to help them sleep. Slings are good if you have a toddler.

Sleep in a room by themselves not until 6 months.

Petrol station, I used to use Morrisons for pay at pump.

If your baby has regained their birth weight and ia following their centile there is no need to wake but during the day I would offer milk every 3 hours in the hope they sleep more at night but as your baby is sleeping well at night I wouldn’t change anything.

@Bananapancakes6
People say hold the the sleep but I would try away where you can get them to sleep without it just me thou lol.

Meant to sleep in same room as you for 6 months to lower the risk of sids.

If going to petrol station or school drop ofs if car is near gate or shop I would leave them in the car esp in the winter months your only going to be 2 secs and car is in eyesight.

My moto is let them sleep they will wake when hungry and they thrive when sleeping unless under weight or a prem baby and need feed regularly.

Thank you @Fallagain ! I can never seem to use pay at pump, is it because you have to have a certain amount in your bank account or something? I usually have a pittance Grin

Leave them in the car for fuel.

I wouldn't leave them in the car for nursery drop off unless the car was in a private carpark at the nursery and I was staying outside and could see the car.

Wear a sling then you can whip them out the carseat and into the sling for it.
