Keeping children warm on cold winter nights - suggestions?

Since the weather has gotten colder, I've been putting dd to bed in socks, and added a vest under her pajamas. I've also added another blanket on her bed - though she usually kicks it off at some point during the night with all her tossing and turning. My central heating goes off at 11 and comes back on at 6AM. She has arrived in my bedroom the past few nights wanting to climb into bed with me, which is unusual, so I think she may be cold.

Rambling way of asking - how do you keep your toddlers warm at night during the winter? She's 3.9, so too old for a grobag. Do you leave the heating on "constant", extend the hours the heating is on because kids need it, or get a small extra plug in heater for their rooms? Any other ideas?

We've got a small heater in each of our ds's rooms - they're set on a very low level, so just keep the rooms warm-ish all night, but aren't so hot that they start boiling when the central heating comes on at 6.30am (most of us are up then anyway..!). I think we got ours from Argos - not too expensive and seem to do the trick!

You could try thermal vests instead/aswell - I've moved into mine..!

In BHS they have fleece footless baby gros which go up to age 7-8 possibly older. they have tweenies, bob, thomas, barbie etc...about 15-20quid, but if you buy bigger you can get 2 winters worth out of them. Highly recommended.
heres the sort of thing I mean

My heatings set for the same time as yours BTW and the kids fall asleep with no covers on and as im going to bed, just as the heatings going off I cover them up.

Has she actually said she's cold? Have you checked how cold it gets in her room?
Ds1 is nearly 3 and sleeps in pyjamas with a vest underneath. He tends not to sleep under his duvet (not above the waist anyway) but he still seems really warm. Our heating goes off at 10.30 and comes on at 6.30, and it rarely gets below 18 degrees in our rooms at night.
If you think cold is the problem, I would think a small portable radiator with a timer switch might be the best solution - that's what I used when I had small babies - preferable to heating the whole house!

DD's room has 3 external walls so it does seem to get bloody cold. she goes to bed with socks and vest and has done since September. she has a normal duvet but takes her "cuggies" to bed-cot duvet from babyhood and my old dressing gown and makes a little nest, very cute.

We have the heating on from 4.30pm-7pm (so it's warm when we get in) and then from 9-12. And then 5.30-7.45. it's set halfway on the thermostat thing.
