1.5 year olds poos!!

Not a pleasant subject but you have been warned by title 😂 my 1.5 year old has had constant diarrhoea for about 3/4 months now. They suspected temporary lactose intolerance from a bout of gastroenteritis, but his lacto free diet has been no improvement. He will have about 2 hard poos a week on a good week. A lacto free yoghurt or milk will make it so bad that he's leaking out of his nappy about 4/5 times the next day, so he only has dryish foods now, a tiny bit of lacto free butter on his toast, some homemade pasta sauces sometimes (which can flare it up slightly).
What is going on?! He has had the odd cold since the gastro but no more sickness bugs so I don't think it's illness in that sense.
Just waiting on some results back from a poo sample- hoping for some answers but thought I would see if anyone has experienced this before?
He seems well in himself otherwise.
Thank you :)

Allergy is coming to mind, have you tried dairy free rather than just lactose free? You would need to have all dairh out of his diet ( and yours if your still beeastfeeding) for 6 weeks. If no improvement then look at other common allergens. I would advise doing this under medical care if possible.
What did gp say? At 3-4 months of symptoms I would be pushing for a peads referral to find the underlying cause.

My child of a similar age had similar issues for some months after a D&V bug. After a month or two of continuous diarrhoea and a horrendous nappy rash I cut out all fruit and high fibre foods and basically fed him a beige diet for a month. Thinks really settled and am now reintroducing his usual foods. I was very worried about him and really didn’t want to cut down on his milk as he really enjoys it.

Thank you both so much. No we haven't tried completely no dairy but I think we'll have to. Gp obviously is crap atm and can take up to a week of me ringing twice a day to get an appointment. They have not said much apart from wait for the poo sample results.

I didn't know that cutting out fruit and high fibre could change it. He's obsessed with fruit and dried fruit but not a fan of many veg apart from broccoli so it would difficult to cut it out. How long would I have to do this for?

I just cut it out until I noticed a difference. It took about 3 weeks and then I started to gradually reintroduce fruit and fibre. He loves fruit and will gladly graze on it all day but obviously this was affecting his bowels. He’s fine now.
