Moving to Newcastle - worried with health support

Hello, I am planning on move To Newcastle, to Heaton, Gosforth or Jesmond. Since my daughter needs constant medical attention, I have to choose an area with a good GP practice and a good dentist. I need help from you. Which area has the best medical support and dentist? I did a bit of a trial and called some practices, to no avail, most did not pick up the phone, one was pretty rude and the other did not know about how easy was to get a medical appointment on the day. None of the dentists had DentPlan. I do not drive, so I rely on cabs when there is an emergency.
Which area can offer good medical practices and dentists?
Thank you

Sorry, it should read 'to Newcastle (Heaton, Gosforth or Jesmond)'

Ime Gosforth has good Dr's.
Jesmond not so much.
*I have lived in both although a good few years ago.

I second Gosforth for good support.

Grove Medical Group in Gosforth is excellent. There is also a dentist on Gosforth High Street which does NHS (Perfect Smile) alongside private though not sure if they are taking NHS patients at the moment

Welcome! We use Honour health on Osborne Road, they are great.Apparantly Gosforth does have a Gp surgery that was voted best in the country at some point. Think it is called Roseworths or something just off Gosforth high Street. My whole family and some friends use the gosforth memorial medical centre and have done since before I was born. Always had decent care and able to get appointments quite easily even through recent times. The walk between Jesmond and Gosforth is pleasant and through to Heaton easy enough with kids in pram/walking. I've never needed a car to get around locally really. In emergencies cabs are very reliable. Hope you enjoy it, all three are lovely places to live.

Hi

Whilst it's not the areas listed, I live in Wallsend. Village green surgery is great I've been with them nearly 10 years and never had an issue with appointments. Lots of GPS/nurses and a pharmacy linked next door. The best dentist in Wallsend is Park Road dental. The main taxi company in Newcastle (Blueline) has their office in Wallsend as well and never an issue getting a taxi short notice. Half way between the RVI hospital and North Tyneside General (Rake Lane). Not sure on the other areas but Heaton and Jesmond are highly populated student areas, not sure if this will impact appointments or not.

Thank you so much for this valuable information. We love the neighbourly feeling, do you think that these areas will be friendly and safe? We are trying to have a balance between the need to have a good medical practice, not far from Freemans, with cabs, and with a good, safe and friendly neighbourhood because we will be there for a very long time. I have a social enterprise with community projects focused on heritage, so I work from home, most of the times. Still trying to find a good house in any safe and good area, so all your advice will be life-saving! Thank you

Hi, thank you for this. We got the 'Heaton, Gosforth and jesmond' when we asked on another forum about safe places to live and closer to the city centre. In terms of dentists, we have DentPlan, so we will need one that is good and uses this. Would you, then, advice Wallsend as a good place to move to? We are very quiet, boring people :)

I wouldn't opt for Wallsend if I had a Gosforth budget.

Tiredpregnantmess · 05/12/2021 13:35

I love Wallsend lived here for 10 years. I live towards the top near the coast road closer to High Farm. 5/6 buses straight into the centre of town and then the same to the coast in the other direction. I mean if you have the budget for the likes of Gosforth then go for there but Wallsend is fine for our little family. Just stay away from the centre of Wallsend that's where it's rougher.

All three places are quite safe and family friendly but bear in mind a lot of the terraced student flats are known for loud parties through term time especially Heaton and Jesmond. Its a real issue. I would be sure to check and avoid student properties. Some students are wonderful of course but don't tend to rent one place for more than a year then another set move in. It does give parts of these areas a transient feel. Landlords aren't always reasonable, council and Unis not interested. Also The Freeman is world class but doesn't have an A and E.
