I’m considering vaccinating my 2 year old against Chicken pox. If you have done so what were the side effects?

Absolutely zero side effects here
Didn’t even need to give calpol before bed

The actual injection was a non event
We had tears with every other jab DCs had, but they didn’t seem to even notice the chicken pox one - just kept watching the iPad and didn’t flinch

By far the easiest of all the childhood jabs. Even the flu spray caused more of a fuss

I asked this with a similar thread not too long ago, most replies were no side effects, so I've booked my DC in for the vaccine..I do think it's worth it!Smile

My son had a really rare reaction. He woke up without the ability to walk. He tried to stand and just fell down. We took him to hospital and it only lasted 24 hours.
He was in no pain whatsoever.
They said it can happen with any vaccine though, it's not specific to chicken pox.

No side effects for DS either, he was 2 at the time. Well worth doing!

BlueSoul · 03/12/2021 13:57

My son had zero side effects, he didn't even notice the needle going in (in contrast to the pre school jabs).

wonkylegs · 03/12/2021 13:57

Both my kids have been vaccinated for CP when they were younger (they are now 5 & 13)
Absolutely no problems for either of them at the time or afterwards

Starcaller · 03/12/2021 13:59

No side effects for DD.

Twizbe · 03/12/2021 14:00

Both mine have had the vaccine and no side effects for either.

So pleased I got it done. Not long after my son had it there was an outbreak at his nursery.

One day there were 2 cases, the day after 16 children had come down with it. All of whom were ill over Xmas!

GrouchyKiwi · 03/12/2021 14:05

Where do you get it from? None of my DCs have had chicken pox and the eldest is now 9 so DH and I have been talking about getting them all vaccinated. We're in Scotland and I can't work out how to get it for them.

Starcaller · 03/12/2021 14:06

Most pharmacies offer it. Boots do as well. Just ring some local ones.

GrouchyKiwi · 03/12/2021 14:11

Thanks, will do that.

Twatforaneighbour · 03/12/2021 14:13

My son is on immunosuppressant meds so it was recommended that he had it. No side effects at all.

Boots do them, also travel vaccination clinic too. Ours cost about £150 for both doses but this was about 4 years ago.

No side effects here.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 03/12/2021 14:20

No side effects for DS.

FlyingFlamingo · 03/12/2021 14:26

Dd had a slight rash after her first, nothing after her second. But she reacts to everything - she is one of the 1 in 100ish children to get raised glands from the mumps part of the MMR, I think she just has a very reactive immune system!

foxgoosefinch · 03/12/2021 14:28

Zero side effects for DD; we had hers done age 3. It was 2 x £60 jabs at the local travel vaccinations clinic IIRC.

We had it done for DD because we had a relative who was immunocompromised, but the NHS will only do cpox vaccinations for free in that situation if it’s a very close blood relative. We just didn’t want to take any chances.

GiltEdges · 03/12/2021 14:29

No side effects here. DS had it just after he turned 1.

foxgoosefinch · 03/12/2021 14:29

I think Superdrug also do cpox vaccinations now.

Tigerwhocameforsupper · 03/12/2021 14:29

My 2 and 5 year olds had theirs 2 weeks ago. No reactions at all. They have their second dose in January.

It was £140 each for both doses in Boots.

LizziesTwin · 03/12/2021 14:30

No reactions.

Blabla81 · 03/12/2021 14:33

Tiny bit of diarrhoea after the first one. That’s all. Best thing I’ve ever paid for. My eldest dd10 had it when she was 4 and although she had it mildly, I knew my youngest dd5 wouldn’t cope with it if (when) she caught it. An outbreak wiped out near enough her whole reception class a few months after she had the second dose and I can’t explain the relief I felt knowing she’d been vaccinated. The main reason I knew I wanted to get her vaccinated was because I knew it was a virus she would most likely catch if unvaccinated. Not just might. If I could prevent it then I would do.
