Spuculum exam at 26 weeks

Hi, posting this mostly for reassurance, this is my first pregnancy and I overthink a lot. So far everything is going well, no infections or blood until yesterday when I found blood in vaginal discharge. I went to the obstetric assessment unit and everything is well with baby. Blood is due to small tear caused by sex ( I was so upset I’ve done something that could harm my baby, bye bye sex ). The thing that got me overthinking is that I had an examination with a speculum to find the source of the bleed. I have read before this exams pose and infection risk and now I’m feeling guilty that due to something that I caused I can potentially get an infection and affect baby. I know this sounds like I should stop overthinking but I can’t! Has anybody had a spuculum exam and everything went well?

Please don’t panic!
There is a theoretical infection risk from any foreign body - a penis, sex toy
But speculum exams are very common to look for sources of bleeding and to check your cervix is closed. Hospitals wouldn’t be doing hundreds and thousands of these on pregnant women if there was any sort of significant risk

Hope the bleeding stops soon Flowers

I’m a midwife and have done multiple speculum exams to rule out waters breaking etc. We always wash our hands, use sterile gloves and practice a non touch technique so that we don’t touch the top of the speculum itself. I have never heard of anyone getting an infection as a result of a speculum exam and I have been qualified 10 years. Don’t believe everything you read online!
