How much would it cost to put a 1yr old in a nursery for a day? just rough ideas!

hiya

Realise I'll have to research this properly but just wondered if you'd give me some ideas.

I've been offered a job £40 for 2 hrs work but means I'll have to put 1yr old in a nursery for 1 day a week. How much will that cost do you think? Hubby reckons if it's more than £16/18 per day it's not worth me doing - I've no idea!

Also - do nursery's take children for just 1 day?

Thanks!

where we are, in the north west, it is around #30 a day, with a CM costing similar

scorpio1 · 17/12/2007 12:16

My dd goes one day a week- they insist on a miniumum of 2 sessions a week (i.e. am/pm). However, it's between £30 and £35 per day depending on the age. You might find a cheaper one though! That's average around here

Iota · 17/12/2007 12:17

most nurseries do half day sessions - maybe you would just need the half day?

mishytoeandwine · 17/12/2007 12:18

Yes, Nurseries do take DCs for 1 day per week (if they have spaces). It depends where you are but in our area (Bristol), we pay about £30/£35 per day.

goingfor3christmaspuddings · 17/12/2007 12:19

It's about £45 per day in Herts where I live.

lucylala · 17/12/2007 12:22

I live in NW - wow! I knew they were expensive but didn't realise how much!!

eek!

When DS went, it was £30 a day. Where I live now, there is only one nursery and they charge £45 a day.

LazyLinePainterJane · 17/12/2007 12:24

You would have to pay more than your OP for a childminder as well.

camillathechicken · 17/12/2007 12:25

you might be able to find a childminder who will charge by hte hour for the hours you need her...

IdrisYouaMerryChristmas · 17/12/2007 12:27

It's about £45/day here

Iota · 17/12/2007 12:27

alternatively do you have a fellow mum who would baby-sit for you for a couple of hours - you could return the favour to her

RubySlippedonastraymincepie · 17/12/2007 12:28

£45 per day in the sarf east

Chaotica · 17/12/2007 13:35

I second CamillatheChicken: A childminder might well be happy to do a couple of hours, or a half day. Ours costs 3.50 hr and is excellent.

dooley1 · 17/12/2007 13:37

where we are it ranges from £30 to £35 a day

Monkeytrousers · 17/12/2007 13:41

about 30 quid average I'd say

TinselGrrrlWith2Boys · 17/12/2007 15:14

£27 per day for here. (And even if you give prior notice of them not attending for a day for whatever reason, still charged full fee)

nametaken · 17/12/2007 17:46

lucylayla I think as long as your not actually loosing money you should work and if you are getting paid £40 for 2 hours work your probably have quite a good job imo so it would be nice to keep your hand in and your options open.

I would deff do the work and sorting out childcare won't be a major problem.

Kathyate6mincepies · 17/12/2007 17:47

We got caught out by the registration fee at Kids bloody Unlimited - another £100 that wasn't refundable

milliemoocow · 17/12/2007 19:03

mmmm.ours is 28 quid a day inc meals

iMustBeMad · 17/12/2007 19:06

If it's only 2 hours work would you not be able to just use half a day at a nursery?
I'm in Suffolk and I pay £21.50 per morning or afternoon.

ChocFudgeCake · 17/12/2007 21:37

So expensive. No wonder why I'm still at home after 3 years now

alibubblychampers · 18/12/2007 09:29

£58.00 a day £32 a half day in St Albans, a childminder starts at £5 an hour to about £7 an hour - shocking I know!
