How often do you give your toddler the same meal?

Just that really… do they have something different everyday? Feel like there’s only so much variation you can provide a 15mo with…

I feed mine mainly what I eat, so I figure if it’s varied enough for me it’s probably varied enough for them.

I’m vegetarian so I make sure they eat meat when we eat out (and the childminder does it for them) because we don’t eat it at home, but other than that I’ve not put too much thought into it.

The variety is getting less and less with my 22 month old twins... I've tried really hard to give them lots of different nutritious options, but mealtimes have become so stressful and often they just won't eat anything. Unfortunately I've fallen into the trap of potato faces / fish fingers / nuggets type food. I give a variety of that maybe 2 or 3 times a week... Though I do get the Ella's Kitchen ones which have veg inside as well as the meat/fish. On the other days I just persevere with the healthier meals, which is occasionally successful but usually not! I'd say I have about 10 dinners that I rotate, and 6 of them are pretty much guaranteed to be refused 😬

We do something different every day but quite a lot of pasta but in different variations

He eats what we eat.
Sooo… stew, cooked dinner, spag Bol, lasagna, pizza, chicken salad and so on

FTEngineerM · 30/11/2021 13:44

Oooo and lots of beans and egg and cheese

My 13month old eats mainly what we eat for dinner. 3 nights a week we have stuff on and don’t eat until late so on those days I take something out of my freezer stash for him in the morning then just cook fresh pasta/rice/veg or whatever to go with it. I always try to keep a stock of maybe 5/6 different batch cooked meals that I know he loves in the freezer in small portions for him so that we have an easy healthy go-to if we need it 👍🏻
Current freezer stash is:
-Bolognese
-Chicken Curry
-Beef Stew
-Chicken & Mushroom Casserole
-Cheesy Chicken Pie
-Cod in Butternut Squash & Parmesan Sauce
-Chicken & Spinach Tart

His breakfasts and lunches are much more repetitive:
Breakfast: Porridge with various fruits, Weetabix with various fruits, Scrambled egg & toast
Lunch: Cheese & avo quesadilla, picky plate, boiled egg or omelette, soup & sandwich, sometimes leftovers if DH and I have had something he can eat the night before and he didn’t have it 🤷🏻‍♀️

My 2.5 year old will have different meals every night but some things we will have every week. Usually a fishfinger/chicken nugget with waffles and beans happens on a Tuesday or Friday every week as that's her nursery days so quick and easy and as me and DH are working all day we tend to get a takeaway on that day. Every other night she eats with us and we have a varied enough diet so have roasts, pasta dishes, curry, chilli etc.

Caspianberg · 30/11/2021 16:46

Varied enough. He gets his favourites more often when I just want him to eat ( usually pasta)

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/11/2021 16:47

From that age and a while before she had everything we did. I’m vegetarian and she is too.

BookFiend4Life · 30/11/2021 17:02

When it's leftovers and something she likes she could have quite a few meals in a row of the same! Like a big pasta with veggies she might have 5 times over a couple days with different side bits (fruit, yogurt, some chicken etc)

Her breakfasts are quite repetitive, some variation on eggs almost every day, toast almost every day, fruit almost everyday. Lunch and dinner she's usually eating what we eat so its more varied.
