Nappies - help

Hi

My little girl is 15 months. She's been in size 6 nappies but we've had a couple of leaks so I've moved her onto a 7 but we're still having a few leaks. It's not huge amounts but it's coming out at the top of her thigh, at the side where bum and thigh meet if that makes sense!

It's like they're not wide enough round her bum but big round the waist. She's not particularly large, she was always on the 25th percentile, not sure what she is now.

I'm not ready for potty training yet. Do I try a size 8?! Pampers seems to be the only brand that do that size that I can see, but they're sooooo expensive.

Any tips / help etc welcome please 🙂

How can she be in that size of nappy if she's quite small? That size didn't exist when mine were small and they were much larger babies.

Maybe you need a different brand or shape of nappy. Which pampers are you using?

KatherineofGaunt · 27/11/2021 09:06

Have you tried + nappies? Sainsburys do 5+ nappies that are more absorbant and DS is dry using those, no leaks.

PotteringAlong · 27/11/2021 09:07

You don’t need to go up a size, you need to go down a size. She’s only 15 months old. Try size 5.

My almost 8 year old is in a 7!! (Has asd so not dry at night yet) There is no way your 15 month only needs a size 8!! It's more likely to be that the nappies are too big, and there is a gap. Try a 5+, same size as a 5 but with added absorbency.

Roro228 · 27/11/2021 09:12

I agree that you should try going down a couple of sizes. My 15 month old daughter is on the 25th percentile and she wears size 4. Good luck!

Tjsmjs · 27/11/2021 09:14

My two year old on the 75th centile is in size 5+ nappy pants from Lidl and size 6 baby dry nappies from pampers. It sounds like the nappies are too big not too small. As others have said try a size 5+

Dogsandbabies · 27/11/2021 09:19

Agree with others. You need to size down. Also, try different brands. With my DD I swore by Lidl. My DS leaked with them all the time. We settled for Pampers. DS2 is using Boots. Different shape bums, different nappies.

NannyR · 27/11/2021 09:20

Try out a few different brands - they are all slightly different shapes. Also I agree that you need to size down - the two year old I look after wears size 6 nappies, I think it would be unlikely that a 25th centile 15 month old would need size 8.

JetRocket · 27/11/2021 09:23

I fell into this trap with my 14 month old. We got right up to size 8 pampers as he kept leaking. ‘He’s a big boy’ was my logic and yes he is BUT nappies that are too big as just as bad for leaking as ones that are too small.

He’s now 20 months and back in size 6. Trust the weight gauges on the nappies and put her back in the right size for her weight. At 15 months I’d be shocked if she was more than a size 5.
Maybe try bigger vests too, when my son leaks now it’s always because his clothes were too tight to let the nappy absorb properly x

slapmyarseandcallmemary · 27/11/2021 09:23

I agree with others, go down to a 5+. My daughter is 2.5 and wears 5+. 6 is far too big. It's more absorbency you need, not bigger nappies.

Maybepossibly22 · 27/11/2021 09:26

Definitely size down. My 20 month old is a bit of a dot but she wears 4+ because the 4s were leaking

RedwineforSantaplease · 27/11/2021 09:27

Agree with size down. 90th centile 12mo DS is in size 5 with loads of room. Check vests arent causing any compression leaks

squirrelnutkins1 · 27/11/2021 09:32

Thanks everyone, will try a smaller size then. First time mum here and no one to ask.
I will get some bigger vests too x

I never bought beyond a 5! For 2 3yo girls. One was skinny but the other was chubbier.

Btw I swear by nappy pants. They look much more comfortable

AegonT · 27/11/2021 09:45

It sounds more like a fit issue than a lack of absorbency. Look at the size and fit advice on Pampers website and if you can't get them to work for you then try other brands as they might be a better shape for your toddler.

EmRowe12 · 28/11/2021 08:20

I would also try other brands- we find Aldi Mamia are good. Our daughter is 4 and only has a nappy at night and she is in a 5+.

Mammyofasuperbaby · 28/11/2021 08:32

My tiny 16 month old (in size 9- 12 months clothes) is in size 4+ nappies.
We use Little Angels nappies which are perfect for his short, stocky body with a narrow waist.

He needs the + absorbency as he drinks loads so pees loads
I've always found if the fit is good but they are still leaking is absorbency or the vest
Also I find that weights on the packets are misleading as my boys have always needed a size smaller than recommended by weight. E.g. my 5lb 3oz baby was in size 0 nappies (up to 5lb) for months

Pandemicpregnancy · 28/11/2021 09:45

My 75th centile 14 month old is in size 4s so I doubt you would need bigger than that. Check the weight ranges on the nappy packets. Numbers with a + next to them have extra absorbance.

MsSquiz · 28/11/2021 09:58

It might be worth changing brand too? My dd just wants the right shape for a few brands - they would fit on the tummy but be tight/loose on her thighs. Pampers worked for us after trial and error!
She's 23 months and is in size 4.

Babies nappies are very much like women's clothes when it comes to sizes!
