Hi all, my son has 38C fever after his jabs today at 11am. He is due the third dose of paracetamol soon but 38 is very high isn’t it? Don’t know what to do:( he’s been eating very little too -3or 4 oz every 6 hours and sleeps in between. I’m going mad worried, anyone’s else’s baby was the same?

It's not ideal but it's not very high, keep him dosed up, Ibuprofen too

OinkPinkPonk · 26/11/2021 19:52

Whilst it's high it's at the lower end of being high.
Alternate between Calpol and ibuprofen every 2 hours.

Actually just realised he's 2 month.
Read up if you can give ibuprofen to him as I think it may only be from 3 month.

38 is the higher end of normal. Carry on with the calpol.

Tee20x · 26/11/2021 20:03

Higher end of normal - remember some babies also naturally run a bit warmer than others too (this only applies if you know your babies normal temp though). Keep on with the calpol, the sleeping etc is normal.

Just keep offering milk/formula little and often.

MCMelon · 26/11/2021 20:04

Does the Calpol initially being the fever down? Always seek medical help if you are worried. I'd be concerned too Thanks

Elisemum · 26/11/2021 21:07

Yes the fever went down after calpol from 38,2C to now 37,7 (30 mins after calpol dose)

When DS had his jabs we had issues with controlling the fever, contacted the GP and got special instructions for nurofen based on his weight. If you’re worried contact them.

vanillaskies · 26/11/2021 21:14

My DD had the same. We went to a&e and they said to come back if she didn't eat or if the temp went over 39. I think the high fevers are normal but very scary!

Elisemum · 26/11/2021 21:17

Thank you all, I’ll be monitoring it but god this is aweful and scary. He was hospitalised at 4 weeks for RSV and bronchitis so after that every little thing is terrifying. I was chilled before that but that changed everything for me

Prayers your baby gets better soon

Tigersteakpie · 26/11/2021 21:23

Don't panic too much, a fever after vaccination is to be expected.

My son's both run warm and get very highly temps of over 39. 39.8 has been the record! For them, a temp of 38, though definitely a fever wouldn't concern me.

Just check it does go down with calpol and doesn't go up after. If he's sleeping, weeing and drinking normally I wouldn't be too worried.

But obviously if calpol can't keep the temp down, do call for more advice.

ShowOfHands · 26/11/2021 21:24

38 is a v low grade fever and it's a good sign that it's coming down with Calpol. Keep offering milk and keep an eye on hydration. Nobody will mind you checking with a health professional if worried but it does sound like a normal vaccine reaction with a mild temperature and being a bit sleepy.

It is miserable when they're not themselves. Just keep an eye and if anything changes, ring for advice.

BonnyBoy · 26/11/2021 21:33

38 isn't too high and it's a really good sign that it's come down a bit with calpol. Keep offering fluids, little and often.

No dr would ever mind seeing a baby so small so if you are worried call 111 for advice.

Hope you get some sleep tonight

Elisemum · 27/11/2021 02:54

Thanks all, his temp has gone way down now and I can see he is feeling much better thank god
