Hi!

Recently discovered that I'm pregnant with my first!

What every day things (not necessarily baby related) do new mums need to make life easier?!

Thank you

A big supply of home made frozen food in the freezer.

Whoopsmahoot · 22/11/2021 14:52

If it’s a boy, lots of face cloths. Best advice I ever got. You pull down the front of the nappy, then cover his dangly bits with a face cloth. Trust me , when the cold air hits it saves u getting an eyeful of wee! 🤣

Coffee!!! Lol

•Slow cooker
•Freezer of batch cooked meals
•If you're bottle feeding more bottles than you'll need a day for if you don't get a chance to wash up.
•We invested in a lot of vests/sleepsuits so we could do one/two bigger loads of washing a week instead of having to do smaller loads every single day.

Other than material items..

•A good support network. Don't be afraid to ask for help.
•Don't set yourself unrealistic expectations. If you need to order a takeaway or you don't have the energy to tidy up that's fine!

A supportive partner and a cleaner

For the days straight after birth, A big jug to fill with water, then you sit on the toilet with your legs open and pour it over your poor ravaged fanny when you have a wee👍 Stops the stinging.
As many muslins as you can, then buy an extra pack.
Pillow cases are very good Moses basket/ crib sheets.
A dressing gown!
If you have pets start playing crying baby noises intermittently.
A lamp with a dimmer switch.
More pillows.

How exciting, @lulaa167 !

@MeltedButter is right. However thats more relevant later. Do you intend to breastfeed? Even if you plan too, make sure you buy some formula. It took a week for my milk to come in. My baby arrived early and i was not all all prepared.

During the birth, i couldn't stomach food. This is super out of character. Lucazade was the only way to keep my energy up.

My first is 1 and a half.

statetrooperstacey · 22/11/2021 15:03

Paper pants for the first few days.
Proper maternity pads .
A stooge remote control and set of keys😁

whosaidtha · 22/11/2021 15:08

Tbh I think it's different for every baby. Half these things I didn't need at all and some would be nice (cleaner) but not necessary and some I actively disagree with.
The only things I would say are try and get your house as tidy and clean as possible before baby comes. And make sure your partner pulls his weight. He might not be able to feed the baby but he can feed mummy and run the hoover round.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/11/2021 15:17

can you drive?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 22/11/2021 16:46

Stretchy comfy trousers for the first few months.

Acceptace that your body will change and your new post baby body is amazing.

A sling.

Oh and join your local NCT group. It's free and super useful. They have walks/events and selling/ giving away whatsapp groups for local mums. I only joined recently but there is so much for young babies!

Its also good because you can meet other local mums and discuss local playgroups/ classes/ etc.

In fact they have groups for pregnant mums too i think.
