13 month old feeding routine

Hi all

DD is 13 months and I'm just trying to figure out a good feeding routine for her. I'm contemplated dropping her morning milk as I'm finding she doesn't want much of breakfast but didn't know if she was too young for me to drop it and then just replace with an additional snack in the day

If you could let me know your baby's milk and feed routines that would be fab! I know not all babies are the same but I just want to make sure overall I'm giving her what she needs

Thanks!

@Sassypants87
Hv say to get baby of bottles at 12 months and move on to cows milk in a cup, but try cutting out the morning bottle and give dd a breakfast like porridge, will fill her up more and esp in these winter mornings.

When you say milk do you mean breastfeeding or bottles?

Because from 12 months they do say to drop the bottles and just give meals - with a cup of cows milk - it’s more complicated than that it reality for most of us and we did keep the milk going a while although dropped it by 14 months (morning), still have one before bed though I’m working on phasing that out.

Breastfeeding I think can be different.

We do (nearly 16 months though been this way for a while)

7.30 ish breakfast - porridge or some other cereal usually, with berries/ other fruit and nut butter/ some seeds - cup of milk though she won’t actually drink this but I always offer!
10.30 ish - snack - not always, depends on the day and if she’s had a big breakfast or had it late etc - fruit with a bit of natural yoghurt or an oatcake with cream cheese for example
12 ish - lunch
3 ish - snack eg veggie sticks and hummus or a cracker with grated cheese
5.30 - dinner
7 - milk before bed (brush teeth after)

I gave a lidded cup of cows milk alongside breakfast. Or you could offer a smaller amount of milk then breakfast or offer breakfast then milk.

They can still have milk but it's preferable to switch to a cup rather than the bottle

At that age I scheduled the mealtimes (roughly) and bedtime, worked a couple of naps around food and fed milk on demand. As they get more active and you are out and about they naturally take less milk in the day, otherwise they tend to keep feeding a lot out of boredom.

Thanks for your replies everyone. She's still on bottle but trying to get her to take cup. She naturally finds comfort in a bottle so we're trying to replace with cup but with no avail at the moment! We'll keep trying

Sounds like offering milk with breakfast may be a good option especially if it is in a cup (if I offered in a bottle she'd choose that over breakfast)

@SassyPants87 My DS is the same age OP. He’s not overly attached to the bottle but loves his milk. He currently has milk morning (I’ve just started giving it with breakfast this week - the last few weeks has been an hour before breakfast - and he gets it in a Tum Tum Tots straw cup)

Current routine (ish) is:
Wake - 6.30am - Cup of milk (4oz ish) with breakfast
9.30am - Snack
10am - Nap (usually 1.5/2h)
12/12.30pm - lunch
3pm - Sometimes 2nd nap for 30 mins depending on the day
3.30pm - Snack
5pm - dinner
6.45pm - cup of milk before bed (usually 7oz)
7/7.30pm - bed

Sometimes he’s really tired early and naps before his snack, sometimes he’s not interested and doesn’t have snacks, we just go by what he wants really 🤷🏻‍♀️

13 month old- if awake sometime betweeb 5am-6.30am then she has a bottle of cows milk. Otherwise if she wakes later her first meal is

breakfast at 7.30

milk around 9am.
snack around 10am

Lunch 12pm

Snack around 2.30pm

Dinner at 5pm

Bottle of milk at 6,30/7pm

My eldest had maybe 3-4 bottles of warm milk a day though at this age, she was obsessed with milk.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 22/11/2021 13:44

FYI with my eldest we finally dumped the bottle at 3 years old- but that was the only comfort she ever had (never a dummy or comforter) so I wasnt that stressed by it. Once we got rid of the bottle she gave up the milk- never wanted it in a cup.

Fallagain · 22/11/2021 14:54

My kids were under a paediatrician dietitian for allergies. There advice was no bottles are 12 months, milk can be given in a cup with meals or snacks. 3 meals and at least 2 snacks a day.

ColdShouldersWarmTummy · 22/11/2021 15:00

First thing - BF
8am - breakfast
11am - lunch
12 (before nap) - bottle
3pm - snack
6pm - tea
7.30pm - bottle
1am - bottle (trying to stop this!)

Bf a bit through the day as well but mainly just for comfort.

Vicky1989x · 22/11/2021 17:03

I think most people switch to breakfast first after a year, however, my 18 month old still has milk first. She doesn’t seem to want breakfast straight away so she has milk then an hour later breakfast.

Wake 7/7:30am (6am on days I work): 6-8oz of milk
8am (7am on days I work): breakfast
10am: snack
12pm (11-11:30 on days I work): lunch
3pm: snack
5pm: dinner
7pm: 6oz milk before bed
