Hi all.
I've just tested positive for covid today and so has my partner. I've been quite sick since Tuesday but have been doing lateral flows all week and all negative until today. I have a 20 month old and 8 week old newborn at home, I have only had one vaccine due to have the other soon I just feel like I have a bad flu. My toddler has been like me through the week quite sick but he seems to be getting better now, however I'm worried about having a 8 week old baby at home he was due to get his 8 week injections this week coming so has not yet been immunised in anyway. Is covid really dangerous towards newborns? I am now wearing a mask anytime I'm near or holding my baby but in just wondering has anyone been through this are they safe? He doesn't usually bring any bottles up but he does have a slight cough it's not constant just the odd cough now and again but he has brought up about two bottles today so also concerned about this. TIA

When you say he brought up two bottles, did he vomit up everything or was it just a bit of spit-up?

Laulie98 · 20/11/2021 19:56

He vomited up about half of the bottle it wasn't spit up it was like projectile vomit

Covid is not dangerous for healthy babies. Please don’t cover your face from a newborn. It’s v important for them to see faces for their neurological development, especially their mothers.

@SweetBabyCheeses99

They’ll cope for 10 bloody days… seriously is that all you can add?

I would call GP on Monday and ask, the 8 weeks jabs wouldn’t have helped against covid anyway. Rest up as much as you can and keep an eye on babies temperature

I had covid last year. In November. I was co sleeping caring for etc my 8 month old. Alone as DH works away. DS was absolutely fine. Never caught it from me. I washed hands regularly but didn’t wear a mask kept everything as clean as I could. I had no other help as it was illegal at that point in time (how crazy)

Hopefully it will just be a bad cold and everyone will be fine.

@OnceuponaRainbow18 just out of interest are you suggesting the OP does wear a mask when caring for their young children?

OnceuponaRainbow18 · 20/11/2021 20:11

@Whatelsecouldibecalled

If that makes her feel better and she feels it’s safer I don’t think it’s helpful for someone to suggest that will affect the development of her 8 week old…! Since it will only be 10 days. And in many cultures women cover most their face and their kids are well adjusted humans!

I had to wear a mask for the first 7 weeks of my babies life. He seems ok with me now. I personally would wear a mask OP but don’t panic if they do get poorly. If your baby gets a fever though they will need a medical review at this age x

Apparently healthy babies cope well with covid. Pregnant ladies with covid are often induced as babies cope better than pregnant ladies. Keep an eye on their breathing and if they are sucking their ribs in. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Personally I would not wear a mask around my baby. My nephew had it at 10 weeks along with his mother and only had a snuffly nose. My own kids had it (nearly 2 and 5 at the time) and were totally asymptotic.

Dancingbugbadge · 20/11/2021 20:39

Don’t feel you need to wear a mask around you baby. Babies are generally low risk for covid and are often asymptomatic or have mild cold symptoms. (Most children in general experience mild symptoms) Hope you feel better soon.

Me and my husband both had covid when my newborn was 7 weeks old. I had it worst with a fever for at least 2 weeks and didn’t feel properly well for at least 6 weeks but the baby was absolutely fine. She caught a cold from her older brother (2 1/2) when she was 2 weeks old but appeared totally unaffected by covid. Amazing really!

My LO has a slight cough then whilst doing this is vomiting up some of his bottles it's coming out of his nose and mouth I think him coughing is making me vomit but I'm unsure of what to do

My 3 week old has caught a cough from his older sister OP (not Covid but he’s coughing a lot). When he coughs just after a bottle he’s bringing up quite a bit, or what looks like quite a bit, maybe 2/3 times a day. Also out of his nose and mouth. The GP wasn’t concerned about it, it’s normal when they’re coughing after just having had milk. Keep an eye on wet/dirty nappies (but wet especially to make sure there’s no dehydration) and as long as he seems well (still alert/waking for feeds/not struggling to breathe) then you don’t need to do anything other than monitor him.

My eldest had severe reflux and vomited after her bottle most feeds. The GP said to me at the time to not be too concerned over the amount as it always looks more than it is, especially when there’s stomach acid mixed in.

It is worrying when they’re this little and ill though, if you have any concerns then call your GP or health visitor but I suspect that they will just tell you to keep an eye on him and have him seen if he seems unwell.

Thank you this has reassured me a little. Yes my LO seems to be only bringing milk up if he has a cough after a bottle he is all well otherwise plenty of wet nappies and alert etc.
