Baby not falling asleep easily at home

Hi guys,

Does any one else have this issue?

Basically at home LO will only fall asleep feeding to sleep, or I have to hold him, pace around and bounce/rock him at the same time. However out of home he'll easily fall asleep in his pram, or even just being cuddled. Yesterday I met a friend for a costa and he fell asleep in my arms just being cuddled, but yet at home he absolutely will not sleep in my arms unless I walk around and bounce/rock him... 😕

Is this just one of those weird baby quirks? I don't mind rocking/bouncing him etc but I cant understand why he'll easily fall asleep in other places but not at home!

Thanks guys

I had one of those babies! It's so annoying when you tell people how hard it is to get them to sleep and then they make you look like a liar when you turn up with them sleeping angelically!

No real advice I'm afraid, I resorted to pushing her round in the pram for all her naps for months, but if it helps she's now 4 and sleeps very well!

It's the worst isn't it! They make you out to be such liars haha! Glad to hear it's not just me and that it does get better though!

My nine week old sleeps at home when I put ambient cafe noises on Spotify. Chatter, cups clinking etc…out like a light 🤦🏻‍♀️

My DS was the same.
At 4 months fell asleep through a kids disco, screaming, lights flashing but used to take me half hour at home to get him to sleep. 🙈
It deffo gets better. Enjoy the cuddles.

Eldest was 100% this. I spent most of the first five months of maternity leave walking around and around the village with the buggy to avoid putting on several stone via the cafe and cake. She did eventually graduate to being rocked in a buggy in the house for naps, but had to have loud white noise and the buggy covered. This continued until she started dropping her nap at 18mo!

DD2 is not as bad in that she’s skipped straight to the rocking in a buggy at home stage.

Babies are weird.

I swear its the psychology of it! My LO will not sleep when I'm willing him to. But when I'm indifferent to his sleeps ... out like a light Grin

@WheelieBinPrincess omg what a good idea, I'm trying that at nap time tomorrow as he always sleeps easily in costa!

@OinkPinkPonk yeah DS slept through being carried through the streets on bonfire nights, fireworks going off everywhere, but yet at home it takes a good 30 mins at least 🙃 yeah I'm just enjoying the cuddles for now haha! He's not a super cuddly baby so I take advantage of those naps when he is!

@Timeturnerplease babies really are weird! I've noticed if I put DS in the pram I can rock him to sleep at home but he has to be rocked over some kind of bump like a ridge in the doorway or over a wire... so confusing hahahah

@Cantgetausername87 I think you might be right hahaha, DS has never fell asleep in a car, yet the other day on the way back from shopping I was praying he wouldn't sleep as it was too close to bed time... what do you know, he fell asleep 😂

Its the white noise when out and about. A lot of babies find silence very strange, especially in their first few months.

Jurassiclover · 21/11/2021 22:56

@WheelieBinPrincess aww amazing thank you so much!!

@hemhem whats strange is he's not in silence at home, the tvs always on in the background and me and dp often talk to each other about different things, we definitely don't tip toe around whilst he's asleep (I was scared if we did he'd be a light sleeper haha). Although I suppose the TV and me and dp talking might not exactly give the same 'white noise" sort of effect that the mix of sounds out and about do
