Are there any leak proof nappies??

My 1 week old DS leaks through his nappies constantly. We've tried Pampers, Lidl, Aldi, Asda & Sainsburys but nothing stops him from soaking himself, his clothing & bedding.

Are there any really leak proof nappies or should I go for reusable? He is combi fed, about 80/20 breast/bottle. TIA!

It will stop in a bit. He's so little it escapes easily.

MOOoooo · 19/11/2021 23:51

Try buying bigger size. That was always an indication for my children- when they started leaking, we needed bigger nappies.

RedwineforSantaplease · 20/11/2021 06:57

My two were terrible for this. It does calm down after a few weeks/months when they stop weeing constantly. I think the first size nappies aren't as absorbent as the bigger sizes so I'd just get the cheapest ones as you go through them like anything.

Another vote for bigger size, that’s when we always got a lot of leaks. Moving up a size solved it! Or into the 1+, 2+ if available.

PinkWaferBiscuit · 20/11/2021 07:00

Definitely agree about moving up a size. If he's leaking out of every single brand then it's more likely a sizing issue than a nappy issue.

Caspianberg · 20/11/2021 07:09

Washable. Tots bots

Ihatewinding · 20/11/2021 07:14

I would try Morrisons size 2s. Had this problem with leaking nappies also and it's so annoying when you just want sleep but have to do a complete baby change nearly every wake!

Saynotopineappleonpizza2021 · 20/11/2021 07:15

Reusable nappies - you need to buy a couple of different brands to find the best fit for your baby so I went second hand.

Motherease Unos are amazing but expensive, they don't hold their value like they uses to though so is keep an eye on second hand pages and you'll probably find some ok price ones

We had similar issues with disposables, especially with poo so switching was so worth it for us

PinkWaferBiscuit · 20/11/2021 07:21

Another thought is have you made sure you've got the frilly bits around the legs out. I know it's a daft suggestion but you'd be amazed at the amount of times this is why nappies are leaking.

Twizbe · 20/11/2021 07:27

Size up. Leaking is a sign that the nappy is too small.

My two were big babies and out of size 1 nappies after a week or so.

Greytminds · 20/11/2021 07:29

We still have this at 8 weeks but less frequently now we’ve moved up to size 2. Aldi premium nappies are great.

User310 · 20/11/2021 07:29

We had this with ours, tried lots of different ones, the pampers nappy pants seem to be the best for us.

JackJack84 · 20/11/2021 09:25

Thanks for all of the replies! Gonna try a bigger size nappy today. Fingers crossed this will help 😊

Do you know whereabouts he's leaking from? That might help with what's best to address the problem. Hopefully sizing up will help though! I've always gone for the biggest size they can reasonably wear.

Once they get to size 3 you can buy ones that promise 12 hour dryness and your life will improve immeasurably 😂

JackJack84 · 21/11/2021 12:12

@SpamIAm I'm guessing from the back cos his back is always wet, not so much on the front & legs but that could be just because he's lying on his back. He's 7lbs 1oz but he's really slender with skinny legs, I bought size 2 nappies but they nearly cover his whole chest 😂

At that age and size I’d have thought the nappies are too big rather than too small?
He’s only 1 week old! That’s a lot of brands to get through in a week.
Check you’re doing them up tightly enough and they’re put on correctly round his legs.
Is his Willy pointing downwards? I believe that’s a thing when you’ve got a boy!

SpamIAm · 22/11/2021 19:10

Yeah do them up quite tightly. I found ones with the fitted backs better than the ones without once DD was a bit bigger and started doing a poo first thing every morning which would go all up her back because her nappy was full 🙄

I don't recall them ever getting that wet when they were so young but perhaps they were dehydrated because of breastfeeding issues 😂 I think do them tighter and make sure they're being changed every two hours and see how you go.

Fleetw00d · 22/11/2021 19:11

I've tried most and had most success with Fred and flo from tescos.

needtogetfit21 · 22/11/2021 20:13

Also try a bigger vest as if it's
Too tight it will enable nappy to leak

Ariela · 22/11/2021 20:29

Washable nappies. They are obviously designed to work well or people wouldn't use them, they've elastic round the waist at the back so you don't get poonamis, and it's wider elastic at the leg, so of course it'll contain better,

Ariela · 22/11/2021 20:31

Meant to add the best for containment is a separate fitted nappy with waterproof wrap over the top. So if the nappy leaks it'll only leak onto the wrap, as you've double barriers at the leg & waist. Try Motherease Sandys nappies & Airflow wraps

buckingmad · 22/11/2021 20:34

My baby was exactly the same weight at birth and she was in size 1 aldi nappies for a fair few weeks. The only leaks we’ve had absolutely nothing would have stopped. I’d change her nappy every 2 hours.

Nappies could be too big?

GuckGuckDoose · 22/11/2021 20:39

OP, my DD was 7lb 5oz but extremely slim, she needed size 0 nappies for at least a fortnight, possibly longer. She remains to this day in nappies at least one if not two sizes smaller than most of her peers!! (can still comfortably wear a 4 at age 2 😬)

Pampers Premium Protection Size 0 Nappies (24 Nappies) www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NJXNG8H/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_0HNVG93X2KSNY4NDEHTV?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 These were the ones we used
