Toddler probiotics / supplements in general.

Hi, just looking for opinions, does anyone give their baby/toddler probiotics? I’ve been reading up on them and I’d like to give them a try but not sure where to start. I’ve tried yoghurt probiotics (I think it’d Actimel who do a kids version) but he won’t drink it.

He’s been very under the weather with nursery bugs and is starting his 2nd lot of antibiotics in less than a month today.

He has a multivitamin daily and I try to get a Sambucol into him but he refuses it a lot. What other supplements (if any) do you give your toddlers? I know food sources are better but he doesn’t eat much at the best of times at the moment and when he’s ill he eats virtually nothing.

One thing that can affect immunity is lack of iron.

Does he have any signs of anaemia?

I’ve given my kids the multibac ones a few times and they would happily eat them as they tasted a bit sweet and warmed on the tongue. Not cheap though so I’d only give them at a time like you have now, when they’ve had lots of Illness or antibiotics.

No not really, he’s pale but he always has been. He’s got loads of energy all the time. I think the multivitamin I give him may have iron in, and he’s still breastfed and I think that may also help.

I think it’s because he was a lockdown baby, his immune system wasn’t put through its paces as much as it should’ve been, he was also born by c section and I’ve heard that can have a negative impact on immunity. I just don’t know.

Thanks I’ll have a look at them.

If he's still BF I'm not sure you need a probiotic. Doesn't BM work as one?

Pucarbuile · 19/11/2021 20:44

I've given the kids duo's choice. I open the capsule and sprinkle it in yoghurt.

Udo, not duo Hmm

Just found this research on BM and gut bacteria which is quite interesting Smile

Vitamin D and C. We have drops fir vitamin D that we give our neice when sick and a vitamin C powder that is mixed with water to make a drink. I think biokult probitics can be given to children. Our little one is 12wks but will have vit d regularly when he is older.

Heruka · 20/11/2021 01:05

Sorry OP I just looked it up and it was Optibac I used not multibac! Hope he’s feeling better soon.

Don't you give vitamin D now? Mine is 8 weeks and I was given vitamin D for both of us (tablet for me, oral solution with pipette for him) upon being discharged from the hospital.
