Calpol advice

Hi all, I’m after some advice please. My 8 week old baby had her injections today, and I had to give her a 2.5ml syringe of calpol within an hour of the injections.

I’m a first time mum and have never given calpol before! When I put it in her mouth she spat it back out. So in a panic I gave her a bit more. I was worried about her not getting the full dose, having a high temperature and getting ill. It didn’t occur to me until afterwards by which time it was too late, that she might have spat out less than I thought meaning I could have given her too much. I topped the syringe half way to 2.5ml, so say 1.25ml.

I’ve called the pharmacy and spoke to a pharmacist who said that there’s nothing that can be done now, just not to double dose in future and leave it a minimum of 6 hours before giving her any more. I’m petrified now though that I’ve given her liver damage from too much paracetamol, as I’m not sure exactly how much she spat out. Can anyone offer me any advice? I feel like I’ve really let her down! :-(

Don’t panic !
The pharmacist would have advised A&E if they were concerned.
You’re not the only one to have done this.

Don't worry too much, they pharmacist has given you the best advice.

In future only give the calpol if baby develops a temp. Our baby didn't need any calpol after her jabs, cuddles were all she needed to be smiling again.

Don’t worry! The dosage on calpol for that age is designed to be conservative, the pharmacist would have told you if they were concerned!

@Chely this seems to vary by area - we were told explicitly to give the calpol to PREVENT a temperature, but then to only give the next day if still needed.

This is absolutely not a problem. The max she has had is a dose and a half, and that's if she somehow managed to suck up what she spat out. That's like you taking three paracetamol. In all probability she has had less than a full dose with the spitting out.

Not to worry. At all. Flowers
