Hi
I just wanted some help my son had a a small spot coming and going thought it was insect bite. Then it started getting red not spreading but it was obvious, he rubbed it against the carpet and it looked like it spread got worried took him doctors , who prescribe a cream crystacide. which was 1 % hydrogen peroxide I was very reluctant to use it , got a second opinion doctor said the pictures where seen by a skin specialist. I tried it thinking it would help . Its been nothing but a rollercoaster ride. The cream wasnt helping much , he flared up quite badly whilst using it , he contacted conjunctivitis . Took him out of hours they said its not side effects keep going with the cream . After stopping the cream it was’nt helping him he has got dermatitis , which has come out of no where.
His patch has spreaded across his face and it look s so inflamed . I’m so upset and i feel its all my fault . Should i have left it alone ??
But its been on his face for over a month or 2 . Ouilatum was’nt helping him either which has worked brilliant on him but now he seems to be reacting to ouilatum . Please could some1 help me out . I really dont know what to do doctors keep giving me steroid which i dont want to use because they have already made him worse .

How itchy is the rash? Are you able to upload pictures?

lynntheyresexpeople · 19/11/2021 12:22

The doctor hasn't made him worse - a steroid cream will help with the skin.

PineappleTart · 19/11/2021 12:28

Use the cream

I was misdiagnosed with repeat impetigo for 5 months! If it was impetigo the chances are the whole household would have it by now as it is very contagious. Mine was swabbed and turned out the be coldsore virus herpes. Wasn’t on my lip it was my chin and the edge of my nose.

Anyway, the point is the steroid cream really isn’t going to harm your DC. Try that first and if that doesn’t work, you go back again.

Use a stronger steroid. It's the only thing that gets rid of my eczema bar injections and won't harm him if used short term.

I've used them for 20 years with no ill effects

Thank you for the replies.
It seem to be scratching more and making it worse everyday it looks different . I have attached picture of how it was first and then when using crystacide and now how it looks his cheeks are irritated from the places where i apply oilatum. I tried to stop using it his skin was sore and dry and in the mornings he would look fine and afternoons red raw. Doctors are saying dermatitis but my 11 month old son was perfectly fine before using crystacide and the eye ointment .

My daughter was misdiagnosed with impetigo, the area was on her face and the cream the GP gave her made it worse. A skin scraping was finally taken which showed she actually had ringworm. The right cream cleared it up quickly.

These are the stages . I really feel he’s had a reaction to something in the ingredients . Doctors will not refer . Keep giving more steroids

My DD had impetigo

The GP prescribed her cream

It carried on spreading

We ended up in hospital where the rash literally grew in front of our eyes including the specialist

She was kept in hospital for a few days in isolation and put on an antibiotic drip

Draw ✍️ a line around the rash in pen and if it goes past that take him to the nearest childrens hospital

NiellyNoFive · 19/11/2021 15:33

It's not life threatening but it does need to be dealt with

NiellyNoFive · 19/11/2021 15:33

You don't need to wait for a GP referral if you see it spreading just take him to hospital

Ash93 · 19/11/2021 15:45

Thank you i have been keeping an eye on it d patch has spread its inflamed and red but dry at the same time. I have been looking it has’nt spread anywhere else apart from the cheek area . What cream did the doctor prescribe ?? Thanks

My son had something similar when he was a baby and it turned out to be a fungal infection which cleared up with a topical cream prescribed by the gp

Ash93 · 19/11/2021 16:00

Could i please have the name of the cream ?

lynntheyresexpeople · 19/11/2021 18:23

There's barely anything there in the last photo? Why not use what you've been prescribed and see if it works? You're saying your reluctant to use it, but asking for names of creams from people here. They aren't doctors, and it would be a very bad idea to put randomly suggested cream on your baby's face, rather than what the gp has suggested.

Ash93 · 19/11/2021 22:55

Thanks for the advice . I was just wondering if the creams where similar to what my son has been prescribed and if they helped , thats why i asked for names.I understand every skin condition is different on people. just looking for reassurance . Its really stressed me out thats all .

Also the picture was taken in the morning , by night time its red raw . Which is what i don't understand . It keeps changing appearance ,both cheeks be red and blotchy.

Without even speaking to me ,thats why im reluctant with steroids .

Definitely looks like impetigo. I'd take LO to a walk in centre if you can, hope he gets better soon.
