Micro scooters

Hi Everyone,

My son is a very active boy and will be 17th months old at Christmas. His grandparents are wondering about getting him a Micro scooter for Christmas. Are we best getting one with a seat or just going straight to the Mini Micro without the seat? Thanks!

Oh I don't know the answer to that one sorry. Mine were at least 2 before they had one.

Bit young imo. I think ours were at least 3 before getting scooters.

A trike may be better at that age

I got my DD one with a seat at a similar age. It was a bit pointless. She never took to it with the seat so we took it off and taught her to ride it normally, which she could certainly do before she was 2. Easier to buy a strap and pull him around while he gets used to it, I think.

We used a regular micro scooter with no seat.

Make sure you have a strap with it for when you need to carry it two minutes after you've left the house.

Go straight for the scooter especially if he’s active already.

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 18/11/2021 20:51

He is probably a bit young for it. Why don't they save that for his 2nd birthday. Probably better to get him a ride on car that he pushes with feet or a cosy coupe? Then again he'll love it in the future so as long as the grandparents won't be upset that it isn't used for awhile go for it.

Go straight for the mini- my very active DD2 was able to zip round on hers by 18months. She got the hang of it by practicing in the house.

Like others, we bought the seat and never used it. DS was frustrated initially that he couldn’t get the hang of scooting technique, but once he had cracked it he never looked back.

Mine had one at 18 months with the seat and she loved it and used it every day. So I say go for it.

I had a speed freak who was nicking his older brother's micro scooter before he was a year old. He got his own for his first birthday and was scarily fast pretty quickly. It felt a bit wrong giving someone so small so much speed and power but he loved it.

Can’t remember the make but our one with a seat was a bugger to steer (by us or him) and we barely left the garden with it so I’d suggest going straight to scooter or a trike with a chair type seat (not a bike seat). Some of the trikes come with pushing handles which look easier.

3WildOnes · 20/11/2021 08:21

I wouldn’t bother with the seat. All of mine have been scooting before their second birthday so it seems like the perfect time for a mini micro. I think you are best going for the mini micro deluxe at this age as I think it adjusts to be shorter than the regular mini micro.

They're for 18 months up and it will.be the best present ever. Let the GP cough up. They're not cheap!

Shouldbedoing · 20/11/2021 08:23

Oh and no seat necessary. Scooters are good in the winter when the slides and swings are permanently wet and cold on the hands, not that kids care about hands turning blue IME

Thank you so much everyone!
