Pull up nappies - are they as absorbent as normal nappies?

dd (just 2) has been in pull ups at night for a while as she got into a habit of stripping off in the night and undoing the tabs on her usual nappies. The result was a soaked through mattress.

We use Huggies at night and they seem OK but this week, I sent her to the C/minders in Pampers pull ups and the C/M commented that she was soaked through after a 15 minute trip round town in the pushchair and then again after sitting on C/m's lap at a school assembly.

Are they designed to replace notmal nappies or only intended whilst potty training?

ds is toilet trained & only wears nappies at night. we tried pullups but i wasn't very imkpressed so have reverted to nappies. does that help you?

janeybops · 13/11/2004 21:23

I only used them at night time once DD was dry during the day. Never leaked or had any problems wiht them. Although in the morning they were sometimes down by her knees as full up! Used Pampers, Huggies, Boots and Tescos ones and none leaked.

I bought the new Huggies Convertibles for my DS and they definitely don't absorb as well as the Huggies nappies. He's not potty training yet though.

i find pullups are useless as dont hold very much at all, certainly wouldnt use them at night and they only good during day if child actually uses potty!

That's helpful thanks. She had her 2nd birthday party last MOnday and all the kids her age were in Huggies pull-ups and none were potty-trained so I thought it was the norm. I guess I should listen to c/Minder as she's raised 3 kids and childminded lots (oh and she's my older sister)

Pampers ones seem more nappy like in terms of absorbancy than Huggies although we use Huggies at night without a problem.

We used Pampers Easy Ups as day and night time nappies with DD from her being about 13 months till we PT'd at 2 years. never had any problems at all with leaking or absorbancy.

I had a problem with ordinary nappies leaking at night on our 2.5 year old dd and started a thread here. The advice was to try Pampers pullups, which we did and they have been great - never had a leak yet, unlike the ordinary nappies (did also move up a size though too, which helped).

I've used Pampers pull-ups occasionally and find them just as absorbent as Active Fits. Maybe they are leaking because they just don't fit your dd? I don't use them a lot because they are too loose on the waist for ds - ordinary nappies work better for us because I can get them tighter (he has skinny hips!) while the pull-ups just tend to fall down.

I've a couple of friends who really rate Tescos pull-ups - maybe worth a try.

My daughter wears pull ups during the day, because we're attempting (hah!) to toilet train, but I put her in a nappy at night.

IME, nappies do hold slightly more, but pull ups are fine for during the day.

Thanks for your replies - I got it the wrong way round in my original post. She uses Papmpers with no problems and I'd supplied Huggues to the childminder. She's been at home with me as poorly today and been using the potty all day so maybe it's signalling the end to nappies (we can but hope).
