Any recommendations on potty training books/methods? Feeling a bit clueless on how to start with my 2 year old son. Thanks

Following this post as I'm looking to start with my daughter

I got a few books, can't remember the names now (nappy Duck and Potty Pig stands out).....but what is good, and still talked about now is the 'Pooland' app. A funny little story about sending a poo back to Pooland to see his family. My daughter gets so excited to have a poo on the loo now. It's free in the AppStore. Good luck and take it slowly at they're pace! If it doesn't happen straight away, leave it a week or so then try again

We liked “oh crap potty training” - doesn’t over promise like some of the “done in two days!” type of books but does set out practical steps to go through. You dont need to read it all if you don’t have time - just read the chapter summaries and the full chapters for the practical steps. But its just finding something that works for you. We tried once with another method and we didnt get anywhere, left it a few months, tried with “oh crap” & it worked much better. Good luck!

Also used the ‘Oh Crap’ book/method and worked really well for us

Oh crap, DD reliably dry during the day in 8 weeks (she made massive strides in first 2 weeks but then started nursery and we had a few accidents). Trained her at 21 months she’s almost 2 and can’t remember last time she had an accident, doesn’t need prompting anymore either. It’s intense in that you really have to commit to being consistent but it worked for us.

Pirate Pete. Even though it gave me the boak, the kids loved it and it introduced them to the general idea.

For potty training itself I didn't do anything special, just started putting them in pants instead of nappies and never went anywhere without at least 5 changes of trackie bottoms and socks and some wet wipes and a bag for wet clothes. It took a couple of days for them to get the idea, and probably 3 weeks or a month to be completely reliable but then it was all done and it didn't feel stressful. I started the spring after the 2nd birthday with all of mine (definitely not a method for midwinter!) I know a lot of people say you should wait til after the 3rd birthday but I found it easy around 2 - 2 and a half, after that age mine got a lot more opinionated and I think it might have taken longer/involved a lot more negotiation. But obviously they are all different.....!

We used Oh Crap too - really good method, some of the parenting advice is a bit odd though but the actual method worked like a dream for us.

Thank you for your replies. Funnily enough I was speaking to a mum friend yesterday who was reading oh crap and was about to start potty training. I was just wondering if their was any other recommendations as like I said I'm clueless. I'll definitely be buying this book now. Thanks
