Baby allergic reaction!

My breastfed 7 month old baby has had an allergic reaction to the baby porridge which includes oats, rice and milk. When we went to the doctor they said the rash could be viral and not related to the porridge we had given him 2 minutes before the rash appeared and said to try again in few days. I am now struggling alot with breastmilk supply (not related to the reaction)
But have decided to start supplementing (baby is losing weight and always seems hungry). I grabbed the aptamil 1 formula, tried with 10 ml and he got a rash straight away.. has this happened to anyone? Is this the cows milk protein or is he lactose intolerant and what are the foods i need to stay away from? Can he not have any dairy? And which formula brand do you recommend? Thank you

The same happened to my son. EBF, but had an allergic reaction to the first food I ever gave him (yoghurt). I took him to the health visitor and she fobbed me off, said it probably 'didn't agree with him' and to try again.

He was eventually diagnosed with CMPA, Egg and nut/ tree nut allergy.

You need to take him to the GP and request a referral to allergy clinic and don't take no for an answer.

In the meantime be very careful with weaning. Make yourself familiar with the top 14 allergens and give them cautiously. Being allergic to milk protein can mean he has other allergies too. No one ever told me this and it could have saved a lot of upset, not to mention how dangerous allergies can be.

My son is 7 now. Outgrew his milk/ egg allergy, but carries EpiPens for nuts.

Facebook groups are great for information and support. Good luck.

I would try and improve your supply. A baby who has CMPA is very likely to react to the soy based alternative milks too.

Sounds like it could be a milk allergy. I only discovered my LO had a dairy allergy once I started weaning (no apparent reaction whilst breastfeeding). Mine is also allergic to egg and peanuts.

I avoid giving her all dairy and use oat milk instead of milk. Spoke to my HV but never went to GP or allergy specialist, just manage things myself. My HV recommend we try a dairy ladder to reintroduce things. Failed first attempt but I'll try again in six weeks. For eggs going to try a little bit well cooked egg every six weeks- most babies grow out of allergies.

During weaning I would be a bit cautious and introduce new foods one at a time, just so you can pinpoint any new allergens.

Lactose intolerance is caused a lack or not enough of enzymes needed to digest the lactose (sugar) in milk. Typically symptoms of this are stomach cramps, daiorrhea and vomiting. All mammal milk, including human has lactose in it so it’s not lactose intolerance.

It sounds like an iGE reaction so you shouldn’t give him an of the potential allergens (oats, rice or milk) in anything other than a controlled environment eg hospital.

If your baby is loosing weight then you need an urgent referral to a paediatrician.
