Is there a sleep regression at 20 months?

Really struggling now 😫 my DS who is 20 months old started waking at 11.30 bang on at night and staying awake, chatting throwing his dummies rolling around etc, and doesn’t fall back asleep until around 3ish. I keep going in to reassure him to go back to sleep, but whenever I leave the room he’s up shouting and crying again (and throws his dummies too). So I’ve resorted to lying next to his cot where he still stays awake for all that time but will be lying down talking away. I’m losing so much sleep and am 6.5 weeks pregnant so super tired already! He’s also been refusing his bedtime milk which I don’t think if there’s a connection but he usually guzzles this down.

Has anyone else gone through this? Is it a sleep regression? When will this end! 😫

Have you looked in his mouth for molars? We had horrendous sleep for a few weeks due to those!

In my experience there is a sleep regression every 2 weeks 🙄. i’d agree with checking teeth, my DD incisors took ages and I’m fairly sure disrupted her sleep a lot.

Yes I think there is. I had very similar with my 22 month old a few months back. I can assure you it has passed. He also didn't want his milk. I think it was due to teething. Perhaps try a slightly later bedtime and make sure the nap is not too late in the afternoon. I had to switch the nap to before lunch rather than afterwards. Lots of exercise to wear him out helped. Its exhausting.

Thank you all! Are the molars the ones at the back? I’ve had the smallest glance as that’s all he will allow and can’t see anything new erupting!

I can try keep his naps cut down slightly more for the time being and take him out more to wear him out.

@Chocolatetrifle did your little one go back to their normal routine afterwards?

He is back to going to sleep at the same now yes, but I did have to switch him to a nap before lunch rather than afterwards. He does get up early though so they was possible. It's a minefield isn't it?
