Walkers - I’m so confused

I was going to buy a walker for my toddler to help him along with his movement, and was looking at something like this:

www.amazon.co.uk/Nuby-Educational-Wooden-Walker-Months/dp/B09B2C556W/?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

Then I read that baby walkers are not recommended and are even banned in Canada! Is it the types of walkers in the link above or something different? Confused

I’m not sure either but would like to follow this to get some answers. I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s this type of walker you’ve posted that’s dangerous, I thought it was either the ones that you hang from a door frame and place the baby in upright so they are jumping on their tiptoes on the ones they sit in that move with the baby and they are upright? Think they are also called jumpers. Really not sure though.

MangoM · 01/11/2021 21:14

It's the ones where the baby sits in them that aren't recommended. They can roll about really fast, and the tiptoe movement the baby makes isn't good for them and doesn't actually help them learn the correct movements they need to start walking.

The type that you've posted where they push it along like a trolley are fine :-)

I’m in Canada and haven’t heard of walkers being banned here. I had one for my son and it definitely encouraged him to walk. I know some people think the opposite but it worked for us. They are readily available on Amazon here.

@Moongirl10 they’ve been banned since 2004 apparently!

Yes, then push along ones are fine.

It's this style that aren't great. They can tip over if they're not well designed, the tip toe thing etc.

It’s this kind that is controversial

dementedpixie · 01/11/2021 21:19

It's the type they sit in that aren't advised as it can do something to their hips. Plus if they aren't supervised in them they can be dangerous. (Saying that, I used them for both of mine for short periods at a time)

TurnUpTurnip · 01/11/2021 21:20

No it’s the one they sit, never bought one for my 4 and they were all early walkers

TurnUpTurnip · 01/11/2021 21:20

But I opened this thinking it was going to be about crisps 😂

dementedpixie · 01/11/2021 21:21

I originally thought it was about the crisp shortage too

Ohhh I thought we were talking about the push along walkers, not the ones the baby sits in. It was the push along Walker that we had.

There's a crisp shortage now?? 😩

Yeah I think these ones are bad for their hips?
ZooKeeper19 · 02/11/2021 14:42

Our one had a push walker, loved it (and used to carry it with him when he started walking on his own fighting it up and down curbs and all sorts of funny situations).

I'd say better than hanging onto my fingers as that's deffo bad for the baby AND for your back.
