Hi! I'm a first time mum and started weaning my baby on purées and he was really loving it and then he got bronchiolitis a few weeks ago and since then his milk and has gone back up to the usual amount but he has no interest in purées anymore he just looks away when I offer him food on a spoon now. So I've looked into BLW and gave him some broccoli today and he loved it! I was just wondering what other things I can give him to begin with? I'm super scared about him choking which is what put me off BLW to begin with.

Anything! Nothing with salt or with honey. Finger shaped is easiest eg fingers of toast and carrots. Remember to cut grapes in half length ways. I would avoid raw apple and strips of meat at the moment but spag bol is fine.

There are lots of really supportive and informative groups on FB. Lots of ideas to make different healthy foods. My little one loved egg, tomato cheese and spinach muffins. Really soft to chew on and full of flavour. But anything that is soft like carrots that can be held easily is great to get going. I would really look into how you cut particular foods though as that's so important and how to manage if you little one was to gag as it can be quite frightening if you are not used to it

@mrsbitaly Thankyou! Sounds silly but I hadn't even thought about how the way things are cut will make such a difference! I've joined some Facebook groups which have already been very helpful! Thanks again!

Download solid starts app! Has some great ideas on and shows you a rough guide of how things should be cut by age

Anything cut appropriately except honey, whole nuts and popcorn and be aware of salt content but everything in moderation was what I went by, i think they recommend a max of 1g salt per day or 7g over the week for under 1's. They might gag to start with but I found gill rapley book really good. I just gave mine a smaller portion of what we ate.

Give him veg…

  • cut sweet potato in finger like chips and boil - he will love it!!!
  • that’s cut in finger shapes with some butter
  • banana
  • avocado cut in stripes
  • grated cheddar (or any other grated cheese)
  • broccoli, Cauliflower florets
  • french toast cut in fingers
If you google it there are tons of lovely ideas
