Napping not in cot?

Wondered if anyone else the same.

My little one is 10months old and goes down nicely in her cot at night. Sleeping in night is generally alright these days (praise be).

However no matter what I've tried, she won't nap in there. Mimicked bed time. Etc etc. She screams blue murder.

She'll only sleep on me/hubby. In pram. Or in car.

It's a bit of a pain but not end of world whilst I'm still off work. Love the Baba cuddles! But back to work in Feb and she'll be in nursery a few days a week. Should I do something to get her napping in cot before hand so she'll nap in nursery?

What worked for you?

I wouldn't stress about it - our nursery asked what we did and were happy to do cot/buggy/hold him. After a few weeks he would be put in the cot and happily sleep for 2 hours! He doesn't do that at home...

children have a great knack of falling in line at nursery- even at such a young age. I wouldnt worry!
At home, my eldest would sometimes nap on a bed we made up on the floor, blankets etc. during the day

You don't want to cause a problem with her going in her cot at night I would leave it. Nursery will have their own way of dealing with things and she will adjust to different setting

My eldest never napped in a cot in her entire napping career. I tried it for a while, quickly realised I would be tied to the house and gave up. Went back to work FT at nine months (teacher), bought a buggy for her to nap at grandparents and nursery also had a buggy in their sleep room, then eventually managed to get 20 minutes out of her on a floor mat once she moved to the toddler room.

DD2 at 12 weeks is also heading the same way and I’m very pleased she’s not a cot napper. Wouldn’t work anyway with a pre schooler’s outings/play dates anyway.

They nap for such a short period of their lives (less than 20 months for DD1) so it doesn’t really matter where they do it, so long as it works for your lifestyle. For me a solid bedtime routine to get my evenings back is infinitely more important than ‘proper’ napping. Quite frankly, they can nap in anything they like so long as it’s portable.

Don't worry about nursery, they have a skill no one else has.
You'll be surprised how well she'll sleep at nursery honestly.

None of my three children have ever napped in a cot! The older two both went to nursery full time and napped fine, nursery staff work magic at nap time! The youngest will go to nursery in January and I'm sure she'll be the same.

Don’t worry about nursery. They have this amazing magic where your child will do whatever they get them to do including sleeping in a cot regardless of what you do at home. And when your replicate what they do at nursery at home they won’t do it at home so it’s really not worth the stress. Just accept the nursery magic way Wink

Thanks everyone!! I shall enjoy my cuddles and leave it to nursery to work their magic!! Many thanks gang 😜

My first was like that. The childminder managed to get her to nap in a stationary buggy in the hallway - we never managed it at home; the buggy had to be moving and outside till she fell asleep. Childcare professionals will work it out and children will happily do things differently at home and at childcare. My second won't nap in her crib either (I'm clearly getting something wrong!) but I'm sure her nursery/childminder will get her to nap.
