Nursery germs

My little girl is in her second year of attending nursery and still comes home with a new cough / cold / virus every week.

I'm always really susceptible to them too but I never got sick this frequently before she went to nursery. Now I have a four month old too who's also getting unwell, and I'm breastfeeding so I can't even take any proper medicine to make myself feel better.

Anyone got any tips on how to not get sick? We're all really unwell right now and I'm dreading the next few weeks running up to Xmas!

It's just what happens when kids join a new social group. The same thing will happen after she starts school.

Adults often find this too, if they move abroad, or even to a new town. You build up a resistance eventually, but it takes a while.

I am a breastfeeding nursery practitioner (my nursery and I work with the kids 2-3 x a week) and also sends my own toddler to a different nursery but I rarely get sick. I handwash regularly throughout the day, not just mine but the kids I look after too (ask the nursery to do this if they currently don’t). I ask DS nursery to wash his hands just before he leaves and will wash them as soon as we get home too. I never share food with my little boy & don’t kiss him on the mouth. Other than that we live pretty normally.

I’m going through the same thing atm. I don’t have any advice, but sympathise completely.

I sympathise:( I have a 2,5 year old who thank god is a big unit and he never gets really unwell but just has a cough and runny nose all the time. I also have a 5 week old and we have been in hospital for the last week:( he has RSV and bronchitis and it’s been the most terrifying week in my life. I bought a humidifier for the room where baby sleeps. I also bought an air purifier for the whole downstairs. Other than that I’ll be washing hands regularly but there isn’t much more we can do. I was talking to all nurses here and doctors and they all said that’s just the way it is, unfortunately:( I wish you all the best

Thank you, to be honest I'm surprised it's still going on over a year later. I always get sick with whatever she has but my husband doesn't, I just thought now she's been going to nursery for over a year it would be a bit easier and she wouldn't pick up everything under the sun but she still does!

She's had a fever now on and off for over a week, this week no temp on Monday or Tuesday and today she's 39' again!

I just thought she would be a bit more hardy by now.

Are you giving her vitamin D and C? I know it may not help too much, but it does boost their immunity. It’s just another something you could try and even if it helps just a little.

Abidec do a good immune support multi vitamin containing friendly bacteria's... I'm trying it with fingers crossed it makes a difference 🤞🏼😬
