High Chairs?!

Hi Everyone,

My baby is 5 months old and I want to start giving her some baby porridge as she’s a really hungry baby. I’ve been looking at high chairs but there is so many and I want to find the most suitable one. Most of them are from 6 months but I want one which is from birth so it’s more comfortable for her. Has anyone got any recommendations? Or has had any bad experiences with certain ones so I can steer clear of them?

Thank you!xx

I used the chicco pocket snack booster from 4 months so DS got used to sitting with me during meals & he still uses it at almost 2. It comes with a tray and can also be adjusted to fit against most tables.

Hi don’t think porridge is a miracle cure though. Ds is now 18 months, he eats a huge amount of food, including porridge most breakfasts. He’s still doesn’t sleep much.

As everyone has said:

  1. IKEA Antilop
  2. Don't bother with baby porridge. Wait till 6 months and just start with proper food
Hellolittlestar · 02/11/2021 08:53

Another vote for IKEA Antilop
I remember looking at reclining padded chairs when my baby was about 4-5 months old and was almost sold it to be the thing. Thank goodness I didn’t rush into it. From 6 months she was using the normal high chair.

We got the red kite baby high chair that had padding and recline but the amount of times she slouched in it was ridiculous even though she could hold her head up. Moved onto the IKEA antilop and never looked back since. Downside is that it's not foldable but it's small enough to put in a corner. If you're worried about hard plastic, you can buy the cover on Amazon. It does get mucky, but a quick wash in the washing machine does the trick. I would also suggest a splash mat if you don't want stains on your carpets!

Btw, there are people who don't even use high chairs at first! The baby is perfectly fine to sit on your lap Grin

ChuckMater · 05/11/2021 15:18

Being on a high percentile doesn't mean she's ready. What 'signs of readiness' is baby showing? Mines 4 months and watching me eat constantly and mimicking with his mouth. Hes a big baby, lots of people claim this means he's ready. He is not. I did a lot of reading with ds1 about why not to wean early, their stomachs aren't ready until 6 months, why do you even want to bother cleaning up the mess for another month

StickyStickyStickStickSong · 05/11/2021 15:36

Oi had the Joiie mimzy snacker and I put DS in from 5 and half months.
It has excellent reviews and it's not overly priced I got it when it was on special offer from John Lewis at £39.99 but I think it's gone back up now

Such a good point!!

Your HV is wrong. That’s actually quite dangerous advice.
Also, your child’s percentiles does NOT equate to being “advanced”….just bigger than average.
