Which books do your 2 & 3 year olds love?

I'm planning for his Christmas and birthday presents. He now shows a real interest in books which he didn't do for a long time although I always tried to encourage, his attention span is still short (he is a busy boy but it's definitely getting better and he can concentrate on one thing for longer).

So the actual story on each page cannot be too long or complicated as he'll lose interest very quickly and just wants to move to the next page.

A book that he loves is written by Sue Heap - Mine. It's brilliant as he has a little brother and it's really helped him learning to share.

Ten little series. Ten little dinosaurs is my personal favourite.

I think you'd fine pip and posy books work well.

The tiger who came to tea, monkey puzzle, ten little pirates, room on the broom her biggest favourite atm is busy building site. Also level 1 ladybird reader books are good, she loves those, simple storylines that she can understand and follow.

My Dd doesn’t have a very long attention span either but the rhyming and rhythm of Donaldson’s book work for her and the tiger who cam to tea is a really simple story which she undertands.

Dgs nearly 2 and a half likes story books now but still enjoys Dear Zoo and Dear Santa by Rod Campbell and recites them word for word. The Acorn Wood series by Julia Donaldson were a hit at one point and I can recite word perfect the Oi Frog series by Kes Gray because they were favourites for a while. He also liked 100 dogs and 100 cats by Michael Whaite.

Little Rabbit Foo Foo by Michael Rosen
The 'Harry and the Dinosaurs' series
Cotton Rock - simply stunning illustrations

Guardup · 30/10/2021 19:54

Kipper series by Mick Inkpen
Book with no pictures - I was amazed how my daughter giggled through this
Mr Men books
She also loves the felt books/magentic books you can get in garden centres
Nursery Rhymes books too

Dear Zoo, Hairy McClairy, anything by Julia Donaldson, anything with a touch and feel element.

Oh no george! Had my son in hysterics and I think it's funny for adults too. Favourite of both mine and his now he's older is Seven Chinese Sisters.

PheonixGlitterRepublic · 30/10/2021 20:04

Lift the flap books are good to keep the attention of easily distracted toddlers eve in that age range. Also the hungry caterpillar, where the wild things are (my busy boy clearly relates to this and absolutely loves it), anything with dinosaurs, a paw patrol story book (the stories are actually quite long but he is a big paw patrol fan), Maisy or Peppa pig books.

soundsystem · 30/10/2021 20:04

Another vote for Oh no! George. I want my hat back is also a big favourite here and Monkey Puzzle

doublemix · 30/10/2021 23:02

Harry and the dinosaurs
Funny bones
Usboune peep inside series
Anything by Julia Donaldson loves Charlie cooks favourite book

All of the above are firm favourite for my 3yo DS
