My 5 month old baby has a rash on his left should and going down on his chest. It is patches and is pink in color he also has tiny spots all over his arms and face. The doctor won’t see him and has said it’s a heat rash however I have done everything to avoid him getting warm and it hasn’t cleared up after two weeks. Can anyone help please?

Can you post a pic? Then I'm sure people can help.
Also - any fever? Any other symptoms? Does he seem well otherwise?

@heldinadream how do I upload a picture on here, it’s my first time using it.

He has had a temperature on and off but he is also teething at the moment so he is crying more but I’ve just assumed that is because of his teething

At the bottom of the thread - images - choose file - will give you the option to choose a pic to upload. Problem is I've got a feeling if you're new you can't for the first month or so - not sure if that's right.
Have you thought of taking him to a pharmacy? Really someone needs to take a look at him. GPs are very stretched at the mo but they ought to see him but if they won't you need an alternative. Have you got a local pharmacy you could pop into?

It is shocking that your GP won’t see you, I would consider calling and saying if someone won’t see you you will lodge a complaint and then like PP said a pharmacist might be a good option. Are you sure he’s teething, can you see a tooth under the gum? Teething doesn’t cause temperatures so they won’t be related if he is, with temperatures and a rash he does need to be seen by someone.

I’m going to try taking him to the pharmacist once we wakes up. Yes you can see the teeth under the gum and it honestly is shocking. I just worry as it seems to be getting worse rather than better. It won’t let me upload any pictures which doesn’t help

I'm shocked your GP won't see a 5month old!! My place seems to drop everything for babies! I'd call again. Temperature and rash for a long time would scare me!

Mine had a dribble rash when teething. She's had rashes after food around her mouth and the odd rash on her body that lasted a day. Done the glass test?

Let us know how it goes!!!

NuffSaidSam · 31/10/2021 15:10

Definitely go and see a pharmacist (or two if the first one isn't helpful).

I've found Boots to be very helpful in the past.

You can also call your HV if no luck with the GP.

Hadz · 31/10/2021 15:35

Took him to a pharmacy yesterday and they said its nothing to worry about. Apparently it’s common with teething but being a first time mum I just feel it’s something worse. I am going to try with the HV tomorrow just to be on the safe side. Thank you everyone

I have never heard of a baby having teething rashes on the chest and shoulders. Teething rashes are normally on the cheeks, chin and neck; the areas that are permanently wet with dribble. They usually improve with regular vaseline treatment.

Teething does not cause a temperature higher than 38c.

Finally had an appointment with GP and it was exzema as I feared. I have now been giving the right creams to use and it cleared up in pretty much two days.

Thankyou for all your advice everyone.
