11 week old screaming relentlessly help

Hi,

DS 11 weeks old had his first immunisations yesterday 11:30am

Very sleepy over the day, had two doses of calpol that day. Slept for 9 hours through the night, wet and dirty nappies and drank all his bottles, no concerns.

Today, from 18:30 he has been crying relentlessly. Had a 15 minute break after a dirty nappy, we assumed he had tummy pains. The crying has kept going, he doesn't have a temperature. I've stripped him down and checked everywhere, no visible causes for concern. Is having the occasional ten minute break from crying when being held upright or held sideways across me.

This leads me to think it's wind? Or tummy pains? Not the immunisations

I've given calpol, I've tried to distract him, cuddles, pushing him in the pram, vibrating bouncer. To no avail Sad

Any ideas? I'm on hold to 111

For the first 24-48 hours after my son's first immunisations, he was inconsolable. It was awful. It made me so worried about future immunisations but he never responded that way to the next rounds!

Hope your little one is okay xx

I'm concerned about future needles too after this, he is screaming in such a way I've never heard. If I don't get through to 111 soon I'll have to drive to a&e

Not sure what it could be but definitely sounds like it needs medical attention. My son did this at 5 weeks old and we brought him to hospital after 3 hours of on and off crying. He had a hernia, DH noticed his testicle looked slightly enlarged but didn’t look far from normal to me.

Can't get through to 111 it's been over half an hour and he's screaming. Our walk in centre is appointment only too

Give as much pain relief as you can, have you got baby ibuprofen too? Vaccinations are horrid when they're little (but much better than death/the permanent disabilities that they prevent).

Try to avoid touching or holding by their legs and make sure clothing on that area is loose. Lots of skin to skin helped my 3.

Hope they settle soon

Could it be Baby Colic?

NameChange30 · 29/10/2021 22:27

Colic doesn't mean anything, it's just a lazy "diagnosis" that is no such thing. It means the baby's crying and unsettled and we don't know why.

I wonder if the rotavirus vaccine has given him a sore tummy? Has he been sick? Are his poos normal?

MooseBeTimeForSnow · 29/10/2021 22:30

Have you checked his fingers and toes for hair wrapped round them?

saltontoast · 29/10/2021 22:41

111 advised him to go in to hospital for an assessment. DH has gone with him as I'm with our 2yr old who's just woken up probably because of all the commotion Sad

Done a head to toe check, nothing visible that I can see. He seemed relieved after a BM and then started crying not long after. I do think it's a sore stomach from the immunisations. No temperature or rash or anything

OP posts:
saltontoast · 29/10/2021 22:43

No vomitting but BM was slightly thicker than usual but still normal consistency

The rotavirus vaccine gave my DS a really sore tummy and he was inconsolable all night afterwards, plus a high fever from the men b! You’re doing the right thing getting him checked over, but hopefully it’s just side effects from the jabs. I always think, as awful as it is, Imagine how bad it would be if they got the real thing! X

Pavlova31 · 30/10/2021 00:29

Colic certainly does exist. Caused by lactose intolerance in both my children Hmm

Temple29 · 30/10/2021 06:20

Hope everything went ok at the hospital OP.

Pavlova31 · 30/10/2021 07:51

I hope everything went well too Op.

saltontoast · 30/10/2021 08:47

Hi, they said it must be pain from his injection site and didn't advise anything other than what we're doing. We've managed to get him to sleep for 4 hours as he worn himself out.

Absolutely dreading future immunisations now Sad

Lactose intolerance is extremely rare in children. Your children probably had reflux caused by cow's milk protein allergy (CMPA).

Glad he got some sleep in the end. How is he this morning?
