Is this normal? My baby is 8 months old and he's been sleeping through the night and even if I get a full nights sleep I just feel exhausted all of the time. I do take multivitamins, magnesium and B12 vitamins to keep my energy up. I'm not a big caffeine drinker and I don't like the taste of coffee. Is this just a new normal? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Vitamin D?

ThedaBara · 28/10/2021 17:15

You could be iron deficient, in which case a multivitamin wouldn't touch it, you'd need to take iron tablets. Can you get a bloodtest?

Tee20x · 28/10/2021 17:23

I was about to say yep!! But then I read that baby is sleeping through.

Second getting a blood test to see if you have any deficiencies. Also is there anything bothering you which may be stopping you from getting a restful night?

Well my multivitamin is a prenatal. Due to my age (37) my OB suggested I keep taking it for the folic acid in case I want Baby #2, then I wouldn't have to wait to try. It says it has 27 mg of Iron in it? Is that not enough?

If you have low iron you basically need industrial strength horse pills to combat it. I would ask your GP for a blood test. If it is your iron they can prescribe the mega pills.

I don’t know the reasons but yes it’s normal. The first year of my sons life was almost traumatic. My dd was much easier even though I still felt tired. It will pass. Just look after yourself: multi vitamins is a good idea and if you feel unwell seek further help. I think you are so hyper aware of your baby that even when they sleep you’re constantly on edge and so sleep isn’t as deep as it should be. My unscientific view anyway.

Would be worth getting bloods done to check your thyroid. Post partum thyroiditis can cause tiredness. Quite a few symptoms are tricky to differentiate from typical symptoms of being a parent! My thyroid went all out of whack after having my first.

@Kiyentau
I was like this not after having a baby thou after 4 miscarriages and 1 cp, my vitamin d was really low and needed high dose of the doc as shop ones you bought where not strong enough. Maybe ask your doc to test you for it.
