Where to get books for babies?

I'd like to read books to my baby as a bedtime routine. I'm wondering where to get books for babies. Do you buy books or borrow books from library or use e-books? Is there any website that provides e-books for infants?
Any advice is welcome.

We went to the library. Bounce and rhyme then pick some books out for something to do. Charity shops are rammed with kids books for pennies.

Check facebook marketplace, gumtree, freecycle etc, people are usually desperate to declutter and you can often find bundles of childrens books for free.

Other than that, I agree with the above poster, charity shops and libraries are a great option.

Library and charity shops are good. But you can get books literally everywhere - supermarkets, pound shop, toy stores, TK Maxx…
It doesn’t have to be a ‘baby book’ for bed time - these are good for when they hold them and you need something simple and sturdy (although my DS still managed to chew some apart…) as a bed time story you can pick something you will enjoy too, maybe aimed at pre-school children with fun pictures and rhyme. Baby books are really dull!

Tesco/Asda/Sainsburys/ The Works/ garden centres/ Waterstones/tk maxx/ honesense. Lots of shops have children books.

Ebooks wouldn’t be great for babies. They like to physically (man)handle the pages

You can get lots of lovely board books all over the place (board books are great because ordinary pages tear easily in small hands). Great suggestions above. Have a look next time you’re in the supermarket - there will be a selection of baby books. Babies often really love interactive books: with flaps or sensory bits to touch or pull out bits.

They’re really hard on them though. So do expect much loved favourites to lose the flaps etc over time.

I got loads at charity shops and off Facebook. Babies and toddlers don’t take much care of books so cheap is best!

I buy packs from costco, the cheap shops like Poundland/B&M/Home Bargains have a limited amount but cheap so not too bad if they rip them. Supermarkets or book shops. Just pick up ones as you go and you build a collection.
I wouldn't go with e-books. I wouldn't get library books either as they are easily damaged.

I always but kids books as presents alongside other fun things. The teachers have said to me that they can tell which kids have been read to at home when they start school. I'm not a fan of reading for pleasure myself but I do like to read to the kids as it's a lovely way to bond.

We got some lovely storybooks from Aldi 99p each.

We went to the Library each week and made it a bit if a trip out with maybe a cafe or park visit.

When they are toddling they love choosing their own books to read.

As others have said Charity shops are good as well. We live in a fairly middle class area so the children's books in the charity shops are often really good quality.

Check if you can get books from Dolly Partons imagination library

NannyR · 28/10/2021 18:40

Tesco and Asda quite often have good deals on picture books and board books - 2 for £5 I think. Charity shops are great too.
I wouldn't go down the e-book route at all for babies and toddlers - being able to choose and access their own books and to learn how to handle books, even if they do get ripped or chewed, is really important.

Inlander · 28/10/2021 18:50

Dolly Parton’s imagination library sends out a free book to us every month and it’s been amazing. Check it out!

pompomsgalore · 28/10/2021 18:52

Please not ebooks.

You can check if the Imagination Library is in your area here Smile
