Hi all,
FTM our Lo will be turning 1 in 8 weeks time, ive read once they turn 1 they change to having cows milk.
She is currently on 3 bottles a day at the moment 1 at breakfast, 1 before her afternoon nap and 1 before bedtime.
Do I continue offering the same amount of bottles once she turns 1?
When do I gradually drop these bottles?
Ive read that you should stop the bottle and use sippy cups due to being healthier for their teeth but after reading some other people's thoughts on this lots of people seem to keep using bottles for a while after, our lo loves her bottle, what would be the age you would stop the bottles all together? X

I found with my first that the amount of milk he drank decreased when we moved to cow's milk, I just gave a sippy cups worth to start with and he'd shout at me if he wanted more. He only had 2 milks a day at that point and we kept the bedtime bottle till we ran out of formula at about 14 months and then just gave him a cup. He did glare at me a bit to start with but then worked out some milk was better than no milk. Just brought DD (11mo) a new sippy cup just for milk, she'll probably be more furious because she's even more milk obsessed.

I would move away from bottles as soon as you can. It’s not just that it’s bad for their teeth, it can also contribute to the improper formation of the jaw, which can have implications for speech as well. If you start getting her used to an open cup or a bottle with a straw now, it will be easier in the long run.

From about 10 months they only need about 400ml of formula a day so I would probably think about dropping a bottle - possibly the breakfast one if the other two help her get to sleep. I swapped my DD to a straw cup at 11 months, I think the earlier you do it the easier it is and it's definitely better for their teeth and oral development. I just went cold turkey with it, she has a couple of days where she didn't drink as much but it was actually a lot easier than expected. Lots of people will defend extended bottle use because it's the decision they decided to take and anecdotally their child was fine. In reality the NHS and all other experts in the field do encourage switching to a cup by 12-14 months so it's best to do it if you can.

We dropped the bottles one at a time. First we ditched the lunch time bottle and gave water in a cup instead so we're didn't need to worry about formula and bottles when she started nursery at 1. Then we switched the night time bottle to a cup of milk (we had already moved it to before bath and bed), then a few weeks later the morning bottle was also switched for a cup of milk. We had no problems, it was really easy. She drank a lot less to begin with, but after a few weeks she started having more. It depends on the child though, some may not be so relaxed about it.
