15 month old afraid to walk

My DD can walk perfectly fine while holding onto things, she can climb and everything but she won't walk by herself at all. It's like she's afraid of falling on her bum. Should she be walking by now? Is there anything I can do to encourage her?

I was told not to worry until closer to 18 months. Some do it quicker and some slower - just keep doing what you're doing and it will come! My boy was the same and i thought he'd never go it alone and then all of a sudden he let go and walked a few steps towards me - just shy of 16 months! That was a few weeks ago, he regressed slightly due to illness and is still quite unsteady but is going longer and longer stretches on his own :)

My DD didn't walk until 19 months. She was clearly able to muscle wise long before that, just wasn't ready emotionally. But when she did start walking she just got up and walked. She didn't toddle, she didn't fall over, she just walked. Since then she's been like this in all the other things she has tackled in life. She is now 19, a full-time University student and a singer-songwriter. First time I saw her perform was on the stage in front of hundreds of people because she wouldn't practice in front of me (or anyone else) until she thought she was ready. When she took Spanish in school she almost failed the class because she wouldn't speak in front of the class until the end of the second year when she finally felt confident enough about how much Spanish she had learned. (I actually ended up switching her to an online class as she seemed to be able to speak to a computer before she was perfect.)
As long as you don't think there is something physically impeding your child from walking just let it be until they are ready.

Truthfully, she will walk when she's ready.

DD was cruising for months and months before she was ready to let go and walk unsupported. She's always been very cautious about things, and definitely has a tendency to not do things until she's confident in herself. A friend's DD refused to walk unsupported outside until only a few months before she turned two. Now they both run around the park more than happily together.

Absolutely do not worry, my son had zero interest in walking until a week before he turned on 18 months! He literally just stood and went for a walk then :). Before that zero attempt, he was crawling, rolling you name it but not walking. He also didn’t sit until 10 months. He is now completely wild running 2,5 year old :)

Mine was eighteen months, didn’t crawl or bum shuffle before. Needed to hide the baby Walker from her and she walked a couple of days later. I’d not worry,
