How to progress from here???

My little girl is starting pre-school next year and will obviously have to be dry by then!! We manage the no. 1's without a problem (with a bit of help) but I am still at a loss as to how to get her to do the no.2's in the potty!! Wisdom (read mum-in-law) tells me it will come, but we just seem to be stuck in the neverending saga of having to clear up and wash up after her. Any advice - the idea of spending my day attached to our small upstairs bathroom fighting with a wilfull child just doesn't excite me... Thanks!

With ds1 it was a battle of wills until he managed one, then never again struggled. But at that point he then started refusing to go to the loo for a wee!

we're having the same problem here so sympathy.

However, she doesn't have to be dry by the time she starts pre-school. Apparently by law they're not allowed to not let them come. DD wasn't dry when she started and went in nappies - she's now dry but has an issue with poo but I still send her to pre-school in pants.

Thank you for that - I thought they had to be dry(ish)!!

I have tried the bribes, the books, and sadly, even the demo - but to no avail!! It looks like I will just have to bunker down and do the bathroom time. I was just wishing there was a short cut, but then, being parent for 3 years now, I should know better!!

yes I've tried all those too ! DD was really stubborn about using the toilet for wees toobut then one day just decided to do it so I am soooo hoping the same happens with poos !

mum2GoogsandGoo · 10/12/2007 17:00

The thing I don't get is that dd tells me when she is wet/soiled herself so she is aware, so it can't be such a big jump to use the toilet? Or am I just 'adulting' a big deal for a kid?

Is there a 'normal' time for dd to 'perform'? We started ds sitting on potty 1st thing in morning and last thing at night relatively early (21mo?) and read a story to him as these were normally the critical times of day and we usually got a result (both) - doing this made it 'normal' and part of the routine, and reading a story meant that we didn't have any power struggles - it was a nice time to be looked forward to!.

We have since managed to faze out the stories and they are kept for in the bedroom - much nicer!

Ds effectively potty trained himself at 2.2, although I think that washable nappies might have mead him quite early.

The problem is that our litte madam's habits are v random/I don't realise the pattern, so it is usually too late to pre-empt it ... I am getting so sick of the smell of 'Frebreze' !!!
