Anxiety

My 12 year old grandson suffers from bad anxiety. He is a confident, popular boy at school has a caring attitude and very empathetic, however take him out of his comfort zone and away from his close friends and he can become a highly anxious boy. He is in the scouts and the general tasks are performed well and he loves it but as soon as ‘going away for the weekend’ is mentioned he starts to work himself up to a frenzy and just keeps crying no amount of giving him examples and pep talks help, you know the thing, life is full of challenges we have to work through them. His father’s the same and his mother use to take him away from the situation (out of school on one occasion as he said he was being bullied) right up to when he started work and he couldn’t take the banter that all apprentices have to endure so he left - he was training to be a car mechanic - he has no ambition although every job he has he works very hard, but they are jobs with no specific skills. My daughter on the other hand did everything and she doesn’t want her son’s anxiety to stymie his life. Does she just keep talking to him but say he has to go he’ll enjoy himself once there, say ok he doesn’t have to go. This happens every time - your views and input would be greatly appreciated.
