Does this look like measles?

Hey everyone I'm just waiting for a call from the doctors, my DS has been very poorly over the last week, bronculitis and 2 ear infections so he's been on antibiotics, I sent him to nursery yesterday as he was well in himself, they rang me 15 mins later stating he had a rash on his body (wasn't there when I'd dressed him that morning)
Anyway just thought I'd give it a day and see how it went because he's totally fine apart from the rash, better than he's been for 2 weeks in fact, but this morning it's MUCH worse than it was when he went to bed but he has no other symptoms?
So does anyone think this looks like measles?
I'm worrying extra because I'm currently 21 weeks pregnant and I know it can affect unborn babies and is contagious to other children
Thanks to anyone who reads this, I'm just trying to keep my mind busy while I wait for this call from the GP

Could it be a hives reaction to the antibiotics? Does he have a penicillin allergy? Hope you hear from the GP soon.

Run2000km2021 · 21/10/2021 10:02

Could be an allergic reaction. Is your child not vaccinated against measles?!?

Bergmum · 21/10/2021 10:04

Is he still on antibiotics? That looks like an allergic reaction. My son broke out like that after 10 days on antibiotics.
GP said it was allergy to the antibiotics which was subsequently confirmed by allergist.

I was going to say a reaction.
Hope you hear from GP soon

FlatteredFool · 21/10/2021 10:05

Oh bless him. It does look like a measles or rubella rash but it could be a reaction to the antibiotics too. I hope he's better soon. Are you both vaccinated with MMR?

ThirdElephant · 21/10/2021 10:06

Yeah, looks like allergy to me.

Duckrace · 21/10/2021 10:14

Hives. Urgent attention required.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 21/10/2021 10:18

That looks like a measles rash , I remember having it myself.

Have you given him Piriton in case it's a reaction to his meds?

Nahhh · 21/10/2021 10:22

Is your child not vaccinated against measles?!?

At nursery age he won’t have had both doses so is still relatively vunerable. Poor little guy. Hope you hear something soon x

I've just sent the GP some pictures of his rash
He said it does look like a measles rash but he's going to get a second opinion and ring me back shortly
Yeah he's fully immunised, I thought it may be a reaction to the antibiotics I'll see what the GP says shortly and I'll keep you guys posted
Thank you so much for your help guys I really appreciate it

@MrsPelligrinoPetrichor yeah I've been giving him antihistamines just to keep the itching at bay as much as possible

Yep measles is fairly unlikely given he's had the first dose of MMR, and that its fairly rare, but that's an alarming rash, I'd be getting that checked out too, best of luck!

feb2022 · 21/10/2021 12:37

So I've spoken to the other doctor, he's confirmed it is a viral infection caused by his fever/virus he had last week and it's not measles, but if he does get a fever or any other symptoms get him seen too ASAP
He said it's unlikely he's had a reaction to his antibiotics because the rash came after he'd finished the course and he'd expect it to come up within 2-3 days of him taking it
So it's just a waiting game now and it should clear up by itself in the next few days 🙏

....this is why you dont get medical advice from unqualified people on the internet.

Im a nurse practitioner and some of the responces to this have been nuts. Please dont comment if you have no training.

@Letsallscreamatthesistene I did get professional advice off an actual doctor today I was just wanting to see if anyone had any other insight while I was waiting to be seen too

Oh, calm down. The OP clearly said that she was waiting for a callback from the GP and was just looking for a distraction in the interim.
Letsallscreamatthesistene · 21/10/2021 13:07

I know you got professional advice. I wasnt attacking you.

Im perfectly calm thanks. Regardless of what the OP was after, this thread has highlighted how wrong (and potentially dangerously so) unqualified medical advice from strangers can be. Has it not?

linerforlife · 21/10/2021 13:13

Looks like roseola to me! Amazing how many childhood illnesses are them being a bit poorly with a temp and a rash isn't it! Pleased you've got GP advice, and hope LO feels better soon Smile

feb2022 · 21/10/2021 13:18

@linerforlife it's just so scary waiting to find out what's wrong
I'm just glad I've spoken to someone now and I can work on getting him back to his lovely old self again, he told me he wants to be a leopard for Halloween because of his spots 😊
