Toddler's teeth seem discoloured

My 1.5 year olds teeth often appear yellow in areas, as if stained/discoloured. He's got a good diet, brush his teeth twice a day (with baby toothoaste but also a tiny amount of adult mixed in) so don't know what else to do?! He only has water in the night too. Is it normal? He's seen a dentist and he said he was fine, but this was months ago

Is he breastfeeding?
Also is he on regular vitamins? Inc vit d?

I think once his teeth are already put there isnt much you can do apart from ensuring you brush regularly and limit juices and sweet food.
Also I don't think dentists like to do work on baby teeth, so doubt they will do a clean to get rid of the stains if it is stains.

But by ensuring a good diet now, hopefully his next teeth will be in better condition.

Do you think it could be dental fluorosis?

TurdCrapley · 20/10/2021 16:45

My 3 year old is the same, dentist told us it's just discolouration so no need to do anything. He has a healthy diet too and only drinks water or milk. We brush his teeth twice a day but we just use adult toothpaste. He can be a sod for letting us do it properly though. I'm glad they'll fall out and he'll have nice, new ones and then he'll be old enough to brush better!

That's the thing, he already had a good diet, not breastfeeding, and if he has vitamin d i give it just before brushing to avoid stainging, so cant understand why there is discolouration. My oh thinks im paranoid because they're not even "bad", but I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. What is dental fluorosis?

Did you take any antibiotics in pregnancy? I believe amoxicillin can cause this problem.

cookiemonster5 · 20/10/2021 17:13

Has your child had antibiotics? The yellow amoxicillin stains my youngest sons teeth really badly and it takes a while to wear off. It's never happened with my older 2 or anyone else I know of but it is listed as a passable side effect.

Three of my DC have an enamel deficiency which causes yellow or in some case brown patches and pits in the surface of the tooth.
One had it particularly badly and used to get disapproving comments about rotten teeth. It does make the teeth more prone to cavities unfortunately although all mine managed to avoid any fillings.
Thankfully their adult teeth were not as affected.

Ds3 has this:. Calcification of the teeth.. they weren't sure his big teeth would
Be stained or not but unfortunately his two big ones have come up stained.. they're not very bad and they are some treatments that wel'll try later on..
Caused by a disruption in the womb when I was pregnant with him apparently
