How can I stop my DS from screaming himself to sleep?!

DS is 12 months old. We have a floor bed with double mattress and myself or DH will lie down and cuddle with him at nap and bedtimes until he falls asleep. We have always had white noise playing, very dark room, sing a song to indicate that it's sleeptime. He falls asleep pretty quickly (usually within 5 mins) but shouting and making ear piercing screams. Not a cry but more like an annoyed noise! We've tried staying at the other end of the bed to see if he wanted his own space but he'll always crawl to us for a cuddle. We've tried patting, sushing, stroking head, singing all to no avail. He's just cut down from 2 to 1 nap but he also did it before his 2 naps too.

Does anyone have experience of similar and/or have any tips on how to calm him before he falls asleep?

Thanks!

Tricky one! What time is bedtime? Maybe he's overtired?

One of mine always cried herself to sleep bit pretty sure she'd grown out of it by 12 months.

Does he do it at nap time?

Thanks for the reply. Bedtime is 7.30 and he does it for naps too. Maybe I will try a 7pm bedtime and see what happens. Thanks!

Maybe also try mixing up the routine a bit like going out of the room and in again. Obviously don't leave him to scream alone but I used to put washing away while they were settling into bed and not speak to them then go back and forth to the bed a few times if they were unsettled.

Kids are unpredictable aren't they?!
