Does anyone know what it is and how you get it? Also has anyone claimed the Hardship fund at their Uni. Tried it last got zilch, but this year I have a 6 mth old baby. Desperately, trying to find grants from somewhere.

I found this description:
Students with dependent children can apply for this grant from their LEA. The money is intended to assist students with additional course related costs.

The allowance is means tested and based on individual circumstances. For the academic year 2004/05 the maximum grant is £1330.
I thought about applying for it but it was the means tested bit that ruled it out for me. We don't earn much, but there was quite a low threshold I think. Don't let that put you off though - contact the education bit of your LEA and find out if it is possible. Would be worth having if you can get it. Good luck.

Yes you're right threshold is really low.. my LEA just told me DH earns too much. We are surviving on £20k before Tax and our mortgage and council tax come to £1000 a mth and I've also been told we can't get Childcare grant what sort of help is this
