Toddlers and toilet brushes

Mumsnet give me strength.

Got ds a wee toilet, it flushes and everything, hurrah. But now he is hanging round the loo has become fascinated with the toilet brush. He tried to brush his teeth with it today. Boak.

What do I do with the toilet brushes? Throw them away? Where do they live safely in your house, unmolested by curious toddlers with no sense of decorum?

Toilet brushes are disgusting. Just bin.

Megan2018 · 18/10/2021 18:52

Ours have been moved to the
Windowsill out of DD’s reach. She liked brushing her hair with it.
We have the fancy silicone ones which are brilliant and not disgusting like the normal sort, but even so….

BingoandBluey · 18/10/2021 18:54

If you put a toddler step in and teach him how to turn the tap on to wash his hands he will run in and turn the taps on and try to flood the bathroom 20 times a day instead and you won't need to worry about the toilet brush any more.

Beware she doesn't start using a toothbrush as a substitute...

Angliski · 18/10/2021 18:54

I mean they are disgusting but what else does one use to scrub the loo? @TertiusLydgate do you know the secret?

I know… is it fingernails???

Mine are up on the back of the toilet, but I have short kids.

DuneFan · 18/10/2021 19:02

Feel your pain. Our brush now lives in the high cupboard. He has also, as predicted by a pp, scrubbed the loo with his toothbrush. Bleurgh. We now keep a spare on hand at all times.

Some people use rubber gloves and a cloth to clean their loos. (Not me!)

TertiusLydgate · 18/10/2021 19:02

OP, a good cleaner 😂 or…some really thick ‘for the loo only’ rubber gloves, a good product and disposable wipes.

Seriously, I get the heebie jeebies if I ever go into a loo that has a toilet brush sitting there. All I can think about is the fetid bacteria soup sitting at the base.

polkadotpixie · 18/10/2021 19:40

My DS was OBSESSED with the toilet brush as a toddler! We had to keep it in the windowsill for months 😩😂

T0rt0ise · 18/10/2021 19:49

Pretty much what @BingoandBluey said Grin

Rosesareyellow · 18/10/2021 20:15

Is this a real situation? (I mean how is this a question, it’s not rocket science to put your toilet brush out of reach - presumably you’ve also figured out where to put lighters, bleach and sharp knives…) or are you just trying to start another tedious toilet brush debate?

Megan2018 · 18/10/2021 20:54

Disposable wipes?! Seriously?! I can’t believe anyone is still buying those. Awful in every way.

Selotape the toilet brush into the holder Grin

I can't say a toilet brush is my favourite item but putting on gloves and getting close enough to the toilet with your hands to rub it with a wipe is just grim to me. As long as my hands only touch the clean handle of a brush I'm fine with sticking the yucky end down the big bowl.

SylvanasWindrunner · 18/10/2021 21:04

Silicone brushes are way better than traditional ones. They don't harbour poop in the same way. But I think you just have to keep it out of reach
.

Theunamedcat · 18/10/2021 21:08

I got rid of mine for years I had those daft disposable I still had to hide the darn handle I recently bought a silicone one and now ds2 has rediscovered the joy of poking things in my toilet

gogohm · 18/10/2021 21:20

Put it where you keep the bleach of course

Lynne1Cat · 18/10/2021 21:48

Throw the bog brush away! I've never had one, I think they're revolting things and unhygienic.

Thismummyrunstheshow · 18/10/2021 21:53

That's why I got one of those duck brushes with the pad that flushes down the loo after- the whole traditional brush thing is too grim with my 2 year old 🙈

Angliski · 18/10/2021 22:25

@Rosesareyellow I know you are elbows away by the sheer stupidity of my question. But here it is… there isn’t a high shelf in our bathroom. I can’t put it in the bathroom cupboard as it is too tall and doesn’t fit. I don’t see an option to branch out to stuff it in the airing cupboard so it is a genuine questions… yet rid or store in other part of house with high shelf or lock and risk trundling poo juice round the house.

@Thismummyrunstheshow wait… this sounds like a solution ( goes to google)

My DC dipped ours into the bath when husband was having an Epsom salt soak.

Man that was a good day Grin

(Also silicone ones here but still!)
