Stupid question about newborn

I'm a first time mum, and although I've googled this I'm only getting answers about older children...

But do I need to wash my three month olds hands?

She has a bath most days where they get dipped in water and I give them a wet wipe every now and then - but how are we supposed to clean them otherwise?

She doesn't pick things up yet or crawl obviously, but at baby class she lies on the floor rubbing her hands on the mats and rugs.

Sorry if this is incredibly obvious!!!

I don't but I do pick out the fluff that builds up between her fingers. I only bath her once or twice a week too.

I do this too. DS also three months and he does pick stuff up and grab his willy when I’m changing him (it makes the dirty nappies fun)

It never occurred me except at bathtime, but I see what you mean about them touching stuff at a baby class. If you’re worried I’m sure a cheeky wipe or wet wipe would suffice.

I tend to use a cotton bud dipped in water to clean between my 13wk old’s fingers, because otherwise they begin to smell like cheddar. But otherwise I just rub them gently when he’s in the bath. I’d guess their immune systems ought to be able to deal with a certain level of dirt and germs given they use their mouths to explore objects.

In my antenatal class last week we had a session about bathing baby etc, the midwife suggested face, hands and bottom should be washed daily. Apparently the hands and face/ neck are prone to infection or irritable skin/ cracking due to the creases and folds (milk and saliva dripping down) and also hands are likely to touch different things and go in the mouth :)

I used to give DD a little wash with cotton wool and warm water, I’d do her neck creases, around her mouth, her hands and nappy area

Last thing at night as a sort of entry to bath time routine

Got a 5 week old. I wash hands, face, eyes (with breast milk or cooled boiled water), neck and bum. Hands because he touches his face, mouth and eyes a lot and got conjunctivitis basically a second after taking his first breath. His hands often have milk and bits of sick on them.

Baby wipes or a damp sponge/soft cloth with a day of whatever you bathe them with on.
