4mo shrieking phase

Morning! DD is 4.5m and has just discovered shrieking. She does it when happy, sad, excited, bored... it's really shrill and painful to listen to! I know it's normal, but how long does it last? Any tips other than earplugs? At the moment I'm just trying to distract her but can't always.

Umm, mine started at 4 months and is still doing it at 6 months. Although now it's mainly when he wakes up at 4:30am....yay.

Thanks very much @daydreamingnightowl Grin

It was amusing at first but tbh last night I had a quick cry in the kitchen out of exhaustion! I struggle with loud noises anyway, so sometimes it gets too much. Her ordinary crying is fine, but the shrieking is just so piercing!

Do you react to it? Sometimes they'll repeat things because it gets a reaction ! I know my dd did - could be an idea?

I try to distract her rather than react directly with cuddles etc. She just seems to have a really low boredom threshold recently, she used to be happy just watching me do stuff. All normal development I suppose. Although today she's combining the shrieking with mooing, so who knows...

Oh god yeah my dd did the mooing haha. They don't do it forever 🤣 these are the things people don't warn you about hahaha
