Stopping thumb sucking

DD is 2 years old (3 in Feb) and she's a thumb sucker.

She refused all dummies and bottles as a baby preferring her thumb / me.

When she thumb sucks she either plays with her hair or hold her unicorn comforter or both.

The other day she told me she didn't want to suck her thumb any more - fine by me.

Does anyone have any advice on how to help her break the habit?

So far she's said she'll only do it at bed time and switched to sucking the horn of unicorn during the day.

If unicorn isn't around we're relying on distraction. I jokingly threaten a muffin cone or just hold her hand / talk to her / show her something else.

Any other tips we can try?

DC's orthodontist suggested long football socks on both arms but I can see that this is completely impractical during the day! He believed if you cracked it at night, daytime just followed.

Just keep reminding her for now. I'm not sure transferring to the unicorn horn is going to help in the long run though.

I don't think so either. It's cloth so hopefully better than anything hard. Also if she breaks that unicorn we can't get another one. She'd be devastated!

I'm hoping that she's said she wants to stop will help a bit.

No idea how we'd stop her at night time.
