if you are breastfeeding, then try bfing him.

If not, stick to water, maybe with a drop of apple juice in it.

The most important thing at the moment is that he remains hydrated - that he is still having wet nappies. Give him a small amount of water often.

If you suspect that he is becoming dehydrated - listless, floppy, no wet nappies, then get him to a doctor.

foxy ignore that if breastfeeding just keep on bf as often as he wants don't give other fluids breatsmilk is the best thing for him

JingleBelgoHoHoHo · 09/12/2007 15:13

yes bfing is by far the best thing - not only is it fluid, but also has important minerals and nutrients, and is easily digested.

I bf my dd2 through a very severe tummy bug;

foxy1 · 09/12/2007 15:14

thank you! will bf him then.

I'd keep on bfing. DS has been ill with a bug for a few days, and BF def the best thing (he wouldn't take any water). He'ss prob be off his food for a few days afterwards as well, so god to have bf to fall back on

andiemisletoe · 09/12/2007 17:59

foxy just keep bf little and often and keep a close eye on him overnight if you are worried at all go back to doc good luck hope he is better in the morning

dont want to panic you but my lo ended up in hospital a few weeks ago because she was being sick etc etc couldnt keep any fluids down.she seemed quite cheery so tried to keep topping her up with fluids little and often.she went to bed as normal.i woke up at 6.30 am and went to check on her.i knew straight away something wasnt right she was floppy, not responding and was making a gurgling noise.i thought she was choking...dp rushed her to a and e and her lips started to go blue.it was horrendous.she was ok, they think she was coming out of a seizure and was dehydrated.she had 3 more seizures that day, they rekon now she has mild epilepsy but expect it was all brought on by lack of fluids etc and was v dehydrated.
if your lo is being constantly sick the chances are he wont be keeping enough down.i would take him somewhere to be seen, they can give him fluids or whatever,its better to be safe than sorry.i dont mean to be a nag but ive learnt my lesson now and its just not worth taking the risk.you need that peace of mind too.good luck hope hes ok

he is keeping most of the milk down - have not given him any food as he does not seem interested. He is sleeping at the moment and hopefully he can eat something later today.Thank you for all you advice and info.

It's good that he is keeping the milk down.

When he does start to take solids again, the BRAT dietis good as someone has already mentioned.

foxy glad to hear he is better hopefully you are over the worst
