Will my son have a snotty nose forever??

Can someone please enlighten me as to when snotty nose bog off?
DS (15 months) has his first cold. It's been 11 days, we're on day 6 of antibiotics for an ear infection, which seems to be working. But the snotty nose has not gotten better at all, he's constantly blocked up, has trouble breathing while eating and sleeping. Nose spray stopped working after 3 days, we use a humidifier and baby Vicks at night, it all doesn't help and I've not slept properly in what feels like ages due to teething and a regression before this cold hit.

Please tell me the snotty nose goes soon😫 or at least, anything at all I can do to help him sleep better? I've also used this bulb thing which helps a little but then he screams and more snot just gathers...

God it's awful.

We are day fifteen of snot, day two of antibiotics for a now chest infection, X two children.

The snot is never ending, just comes and comes.

Calpol plug in? Vic lathered on something and left near cot. And raise it at one end, books under the feet.

Other than that I will be turning to drink soon.

Ahh me too! My 13mo has had a runny/blocked nose for 2 weeks now. Today I actually realised that’s how long it’s been and I thought surely that can’t be normal Confused

Lots of sympathy but no magic solution I’m afraid. Have you tried an electric nasal aspirator? We found it worked better for us than the manual one.

We only used it at night as DD absolutely hated it but at least it cleared her nose enough that she didn’t have trouble feeding

Until he’s about 4, it’ll be fairly permanent 😂 honestly, both mine had/have permanently runny noses the entirety of winter. It’s gross & shit for sleep but they do get somewhat used to it & sleep better eventually. It’s perfectly normal, particularly if they go to nursery!

Have you tried a vicks plug in? Or adding essential oil to the humidifier? Raise the mattress at one end?

Winter illness is rough the first few years but it gets better I promise! They do need to catch all this stuff for their immune system to develop!

In my experience, it takes two winters of what seems like almost constant respiratory viruses before young children build up immunity to the most common ones in circulation.

That was pre-pandemic though.

Agree with @Bobholll and somewhere between 3 and 4 they'll be able to help themselves to tissues from the box but only use a tiny bit of each tissue so they'll get through a box in less than minutes.

Try calpol plug in and snufflebabe on the soles of the feet and socks for night. I was sceptical about the feet trick but it works.

Aside from that, no other solutions just solidarity. I have an 18mo who has had a snotty nose for maybe a month now. Good thing about it is that he's learnt to present his nose to me when he wants it sorting out. Got to look for those silver linings somewhere.....!
